Not all of them are it's the people who give them this reputation. Most people who get them get them because they look cool. they can actually be great dogs just like any other dog that is also in the terrierr catigory. they just need constant socialization and many people do not understand that. they need to see other people and dogs all of the time. Any dog that is not socialized can be aggressive.

Pit bulls are NOT mean and vicious that is complete racism (breedcism). Infact pitbull make wonderful pets for children. Even a perfect poodle can be "mean and vicious". And anyway the only reason some dogs are "mean and vicious" is because they were probably train to be like that. Just take a look here http://www.realpitbull.com/

that is how they are raised but they are bred to be that way. i think that it is sick because no dog should be raised that way, to fight, or be vicious. even a pit that has been in a family for yrs can still turn on them. i don't reccomend the breed for no family because of that reason. they are pretty and all but even though they are in a family it's entire life they will still turn on them for no apparent reason. they just have a bad rap sheet and it won't get any better til they perfect the breed which won't come any time soon. i have a sister who had a pit from a pup and when the dog was 2 yrs old it turned on her just from a mistake that my sister did. she didn't know that her dog was under the table and didn't see her tail and she steeped on it (just the tip) and the dog turned and tore a chunck out of her leg, after that the dog tried to do it again, she called me and when i got there her leg was open. so it doesn't matter what you do with the dog they will still have that aggressive behavior to others. other people may think that i don't know what i am talking about but i saw it first hand and it wasn't a pretty sight. i seen the dog every day and it was good till that day and it was a day that my sister doesn't want to remember.

First of all, not ALL pitbuls are "mean and vicious". This is simply a stereo-type (like ALL blondes are stupid, ALL fat people are pigs--ofcourse these are not true).
so first you must step out of that stereo-typical world and know that pitbuls are just like any other dog. some are mean, some are friendly. some get along with children/other dogs. some dont.
it all depends on how you look at it.
i have met some pitbulls happened to be the most loveable dogs ever.
personally, i think the difference is that the friendly ones have patient and non-violent owners.
see dogs are lucky. they cannot be blamed for what they do. they only learn from US.
so if we are violent to or around a dog, he/she might turn out to be violent as well.
so if your looking to get a pitbull, dont be caught up in the reputation of "theyre all evil and out to hurt pepole".
just treat him/her with the same respect you would give anybody (dog or person) and you will most likely have a good turnout.

I don't believe pitbulls are vicious by nature. But I do think people who own them are irresponsible. Even if the dogs are raised in the sweetest family, they still have the physical abilility to severely harm and/or kill. It's not their fault, they are just very strong dogs. Any dog could bite at any point, but only a handful can actually kill you and, for that reason, those breeds should be outlawed. Besides, if you need a dog that strong, what are you really trying to protect? (not YOU, but anyone in general)

All bred dogs ie pure breeds, "full blooded" were bred for a purpose such as herding, gun dogs - retrievers, pointers, none of them were random mistakes.

Pitbulls are an interbreed of dogs designed to fight other dogs.

You cannot take the DNA out of any animal and all animals no matter how well you train them or socialize them are going to sooner or later do what their DNA - their programming- tells them to do.

Thus, a dog bred to fight other dogs will sooner or later be aggressive and attack another dog or a human.

Also, some owners of these dogs want a "macho" dog and this doesn't help matters as they encourage their dogs to be antisocial by not taking them to puppy socialization classes and have a "my dog is a tough dog" attitude which ultimately hurts the dog, the breed in general, and human lives when the dog attacks or kills people.

Owning a pit bull or any dominant breed requires owning your own home, having a fenced in yard of appropriate height and leashing and using a muzzle when you are taking such dog into public.

In my area pit bulls and several other dominant breeds are illegal unless you have dog insurance (expensive) and do all of the above.

Breed specific legislation is gaining in popularity and I see it in every high poplulation density area within 10 years. And it isn't just pit bulls it's other breeds that have proven to be more likely to attack without provocation.

Obviously you have not met many Pit Bulls. Most are sweet, friendly dogs who would never think of hurting someone. This is actually the temperament they were originally bred to have. Unfortunately, thugs and gangs have ruined the reputation of this breed with a handful of nasty, unpredictable, and unstable dogs. If you want to really know about this breed, go to www.badrap.org. It's a fabulous site!

Maybe it is because yahoo sets them a bad example by being so vicious to e-mailers! Refusing to let us log on sometimes! Refusing to send when someone clicks the send icon!forcing us to play their stupid copy to verify game-and usually refusing to send the message anyway no matter how many times you play their stupid game! Forcing us to change passwords-even start new accounts by refusing to let us log on to the old ones! All kinds of vicious pranks!
With Yahoos example no example no wonder so many creatures are just plain vicious!

pure breed dogs were made the way they are for a certain reason. pits have heavy jaws meant for biting and fighting. that is why so many attacks are fatal from them, even though i think labs bite more often. a lab's jaw is meant for a gentle bite/carry. a dog can overcome it's dna with a good owner, but most owners of pits aren't the best for the breed
