HI
I would make him sit before you give him his food, prepare it on a counter make him wait for it let him see you are in control, or start carry it around in your pocket AND FEED HIM A PIECE HERE AND THERE oops caps lock. You have to be in control maybe use a leash when he is eating and take him away from the situation when he misbehaves.

First of all keep food for him out all the time. Food and water always available. Second use your tone of voice and talk to him and tell him NO NO NO and remove him from the problem area. Be consistant and do not allow aggresive behavior. Time outs work. Get a small kennel or dog carrier. When he is aggressive pick him up by the scruff of the neck and tell him no and put him in the carrier for 5 minutes. This could take a while but he will learn aggresive behavior is not acceptable. You are doing 2 things here first putting him in a safe environment and second and most important becoming the dominate figure that he will respect.

if you leave the food out all the time it will help. the water too. he might had to fight for his food at one time. but if he sees that the food is always there he will calm down. the trash should be in a tall kitchen trash can with a lid. you may need to use this kind in every room in the house. but it works. make sure you take your trash out each night and where it can't be gotten in to. good luck

If he is protective of his food you may have a real problem. Dogs that have that trait aren't even adoptable from shelters. And with children I would be even more concerned. The best thing is talk to a vet you trust. Good luck

Ok, you have a leadership problem and you need to fix this before someone gets hurt.
Go out and get this book: Jan Fennell 'Dog Listener'
Whatever ever you do, do not physically repremand this dog, it is dangerous and will make the problem much worse.

Get help from a trainer! Resource guarding - especially when it involves several resources - requires a great deal of management and a lot of steps for treatment. Ask your vet for a referral or go to www.apdt.com to find someone in your area who handles behavior problems. You can also read the book Mine! by Jean Donaldson. Has great info, but this really needs a trained eye to fix it.

Take command of your household by establishing hierarchy. First, he should NEVER be protective of anything in YOUR house. You should immediately put him in down! Down is him submitting to you. You need to set rules for this dog and really get him trained. Maintaining his training will keep you in the top rank in your house.
A dog shouldn't be aggressive towards Alpha - in a pack he'd be ripped to shreds. Only the Alpha is the one who disciplines and acts "aggressively" and food possessive allowing others to eat.
When you serve him food tell him to sit and keep him there THEN give him a command to eat. Practice on making him stop eating then giving him a command again to eat.
Grab his leash if he doesn't stop eating when you tell him and put him in sit. Tell him to leave it then command him to eat again. Same goes with EVERYTHING in your house. You need to command him to in, and out of the house. Up on the furniture or on the bed. He shouldn't be allowed to be with you unless you say so.
As for the garbage you need to get a covered can or keep it out of his reach. A dog that plays in the trash receives and instant reward. Punishing him for something that he's already done is useless, it just makes him more upset. Aggression breeds aggression.
If you catch him in the act then you tell him to leave it then put him in down.
Call an at home trainer. They cater to your specific needs and training problems.
But first and foremost you need to become and STAY Alpha in your house.
Good Luck

It relies upon on the dogs. lets say Pomeranians and Yorkies are temperamental and advise. it genuinely relies upon on the guy dogs. in case you want a physically powerful dogs, detect a physically powerful breeder and meet the mother and dad. as an instance: My Chihuahua's dam (mom) is the sweetest Chihuahua i've got ever met. She LOVES human beings, runs good as much as you wagging her tail, is superb with you choosing her up, supplies kisses, she's large. She additionally never barks. Her sire (father) is slightly skittish, yet then warms as much as you and is a very candy little guy. I enjoyed her mum and dad and Lua acts only like her mom. Loves human beings, runs good as much as them whilst she sees them together with her tail wagging, etc. i've got had her for 2 weeks and that i've got only heard her bark on 2 events; as quickly as whilst she met a great dogs that she curiously did no longer like and the different time grew to become into whilst she observed my artwork pants on the settee and he or she wasn't used to them being there. She's an incredible little dogs and each physique loves her.
