So I met this girl online and talked to her on AIM and everything seemed to go well. I would really like to ask her to dinner to get to know her better. Is asking online a bad thing and then getting her # to confirm the date and is it too soon to ask only the 2nd time you chatted online? I feel that I can't stall too long since I have waited in past and other guys moved in and I lost my opportunity. Plus she seems pretty great and she is very cute so it seems to make the window of opportunity smaller.

Go for it you should ask her but get her number and talk to her at least once on the phone before you ask her out on a date. Dinner is a good place to start. And your right you need to make a move before someone else does, from personal experience with on-line "relationships" this guy and I were talking for about 6 months and we knew everything about each other and there was no way we could see each other for at least another 3 months or so well by that time he had a new gf and I had a new bf which sucked but now we have been the best of friends for almost 3 years now. Which for us is better, but you should give it a go so you can really get to know her. Good Luck!!!

Talk to her on the phone first. Get her number and talk to her, not just confirm the date. Geez, what is it with the youth of America today that they can't communicate in person? Sorry if that sounds like a slam, but seriously, use the phone as a phone. Call her. Talk to her. Get to know her. THEN ask her out.

We exchanged lengthy e-mails for two days, swapped phone numbers and had long, long conversations for two days, and finally met following that. We got engaged four months later, and married thirteen months after that (so I could finish grad school).
COMMUNICATE. Talk to her. First of all, it is the only way to find out if she really IS A GIRL OR NOT.

you need to ask her in person or on the phone, over AIM is very impersonal, but if that is your only way of sommunicating go for it.
