How does reincarnation account for the increase in world population?

If you go with the idea that we are all created from the energy of the Universe, then there is an unlimited amount of energy to be "turned into people", isn't there? Also, we are not bound to return immediately after death. There could be millions of spirits simply hanging out waiting to return, and more have chosen this time to return in than in the past. Part of the reason there are so many people on the planet now is because we're living longer and the infant mortality rate has dropped, so more humans make it out of childhood into adulthood.

Personally, I think it's just that there is a limitless source from which we all come, so why would reincarnation have to account for the increase in the population?

There are many problems with the salvation-by works doctrine of reincarnation. First, there are many practical problems. For example:
1. We must ask, why does one get punished for something he or she cannot remember having done in a previous life?
2. If the purpose of karma is to rid humanity of its selfish desires, then why hasn't there been a noticeable improvement in human nature after all the millennia of reincarnations?
3. If reincarnation and the law of karma are so beneficial on a practical level, then how do advocates of this doctrine explain the immense and ever-worsening social and economic problems - including widespread poverty, starvation, disease, and horrible suffering - in India, where reincarnation has been systematically taught through out its history?
There are also many biblical problems with believing in reincarnation. For example, in 2 Corinthians 5:8 the apostle Paul states, "We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord." At death, the, the Christian immediately goes into the presence of the Lord, not into another body. In keeping with this. Luke 16:19-31 tells us that unbelievers at death go to a place of suffering, not into another body.
Further, Hebrews 9:27 assures us that "man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment." Each human being LIVES ONCE as a mortal on earth, DIES ONCE, and then FACES JUDGMENT. He does not have a second chance by reincarnating into another body.

Easy, each time a bed bug reincarnated into a human the population goes up by one. Do that a few million times and there you are.

In hinduism and Buddhism, an entity can exist in many forms (a tree, an animal etc) before assuming the human shape. So there is limitless supply of entities to reincarnate. For all I know, I might have been a bacterium on Mars before I showed up here on Earth.

We Buddhists do not believe in linear time, no finite beginning, no finite end, so when we say you can take rebirth in any of the realms I've discussed before, it doesn't mean in a linear future, and it might not be on this planet even. You could take rebirth in the past and people taking rebirth in THIS planet may be doing so from another world that is not going to sustain life any longer. It's said when this planet's destroyed and can sustain no further rebirths, people will start taking rebirth on another world, or not, per their karma and their state of mind at the time of death.

When the spirit souls come in contact with the material world first take bodies of plants, fish and animals. Once the spirit souls have gone through those bodies he has the rare opportunity to take a human body after millions and millions of births in the lower species (plants, aquatics and animals). Having a human body means we are very fortunate and if we do not use our body for the intended purpose, material nature takes it away and award us with a body in the lower species. There are trillions of spirit souls in lower species bodies waiting for the chance to obtain a human body.

That we are not the only sentient beings in the universe AND that primitive souls "evolve" to more advanced souls over time.

Whoops...I forgot another reason. Not all souls "choose" to be incarnated at any given time, so there is a bigger pool of souls than what is obvious on earth.

Have you noticed that the animal kingdom is ever decreasing? Meaning, that more souls/spirits (whatever you want to call it) will be born as human beings
This is just my theory & have no idea if it's valid.
