If you were in a long distance relationship, do you tell your girl friend that you love them and miss them? I have been told another view point of this that it is superficial. What do you think?

I am not asking for advice for me. I was wondering what you think because my friend (the other one in the picture) has a boyfriend who won't tell her these things and it is getting her discouraged. He says it is a superficial way to build her up. I think that it should be said when felt.

Of course i would tell her! Every single time! It is not superficial, not if i really love her, and i really feel this way! I doesn't have to be said as a routine phrase, cause then it can loose it's meaning, but when you really feel that you miss someone you love why shouldn't you be able to say it?

Why superficial? You are expressing your feelings, unless you dont feel that way. Why wait and keep a person in silence when you sometimes it can be the last thing you say. Life have its twists and turns and we need to live thinking everyday may be out last. Thats why i cant stress it much more that it is important to let a person know how you feel. Dont see how superficial have anything to do with letting your feelings out.

Superficial or not--it is necessary. Sometimes the obvious needs to be repeated. Don't freak out if he forgets to say that to you once, but if you never hear it you'll start wondering, even if there really isn't a problem.

I misunderstood you before you edited the question. If he is never saying it, count him as a pen pal who may come into town for sex--don't call him a boyfreind. If he is scared to say I love you and gives a BS reason like that when you pin him down, he doesn't love you--that's all there is to it.

I would tell her so she knows. I think that love is a very precious gift. I don't want you to loose that. I unfortunately did the same thing and she walked out of my life without ever knowing how I felt about her. I still till this day wonder if I had told her that we would be together now. This happened 5 years ago today.

Of course!! I'm 90 something, and when I meet someone that doesn't live near me, I'll call and say that all the time. But why does someone have to be over 26?

OK, but which one is you, and which one has the non-sensitive boyfriend?

nope it's not superficial at all. it's sweet, as long it's from your heart. however, i've not met a single couple who survived more than 2 years of long-d relationships.. i hope yours works out. =)

long distance relationships are not good.you don't know what the person is doing and they dont know what you are doing either.so when they say they love you and miss you they might not mean it they may have someone filling your space and just tell you that to make you feel better.so drop that one and get one thats near.

Of course! I take the advice from Billy Joel's song, "Tell Her About It."

I'm 36, and if I truly meant it, I would say it. If I didn't feel that way, I wouldn't bother lying.
