You know there are 3 GSM operators in Turkey:
Turkcell, Telsim and Avea.

The newly appointed CEO of Turkcell, Mr.Ciliv, says they are NOT a GSM operator but an industry maker, also blaming other operators (Avea & Telsim) for not having solid & compatible infrastructure; and thus Turkcell has a right to demand higher prices from the customers.

Which, do you think, is the best GSM operator in Turkey with respect to service quality / price ratio?

Which one would you chose if you are to get your very first GSM in Turkey?

P.S. Please do not exceed 200 characters in your answer becaue I want to read them all carefully. Thanks...

P.S.S. Those who do not live in Turkey, please do not reply!

P.S.S.S. Leonarda.. The note above is specifically for you.. Please..

Dear Precious,

In fact, there is no any differences each other. I am using Avea GSM Operator, and I did not see any differences from other.
I again prefer Avea.

Everybody knows that, Turkcell is the leader and the industry maker GSM sector in Turkiye. Turkiye has 51.2 million GSM subscribers in total and 31.8 million people has Turkcell account.

Let's talk as a costumer. I have three mobile numbers and three of them are Turkcell. I use Turkcell because i never live connection problems. Also everything is easy to do (payment, costumers support, i can do lot's of things from their web site about my accounts)... But of course i live problems. Prices are too high then other operators and other countries, and Turkcell see himself like a cartel or monopoly...

With Vodafone it will change. I am waiting for their improvement and investments to their GSM background. I think they can fight with Turkcell. So this fight will be good for costumers.

- If i get my first GSM in Turkey? If i was young i think Avea (Their promotions and campaigns are too attractive) But if i was at middle age of course Turkcell.

Best Regards

Interesting question, here is my subjective answer:

For long years Turkcell has been the unquestioned leader with quality of service and good coverage.

Couple of years ago Vodafone bought Telsim and now they have one target to destroy Turkcell's leadership. Turkcell knows they cannot cope with Vodafone so they are trying to tell things like they are not a GSM company. And surprisingly since December 2006 the quality of Turkcell service is dropping. I think they have stopped investing in new equipment and want to cash in their large customer base.

Here is my forecast. In next few year number carrying can be possible in Turkey (you can carry your phone number to any operator), if this happens Vodafone will have big chance to become leader because they want to do it and they have cash.

I think either way, end users will win from this battle.

Turkcell by far. I used Telsim and Avea too - just because I had friends who used them. But I could never have a healthy conversation with them, because network is always shaky.

I'm content with Turkcell. I don't talk much on the phone so I pay around 20 YTL per month. That's not much, is it?

Note: I call Avea too, and it doesn't cost much from Tcell to Avea, but I never ever call Telsim. I did once and the price was too much. I learnt my lesson.

if u think u can spend money a little more, use Turkcell, if not, use Avea.. however, in a year, i think, Telsim-Vodafone will make a progress..

Turkcell is the best but it's more expensive from others (I mean, talking to someone is more expensive - not buying Turkcell)..Telsim is ok, cheap too but Avea is the worst. My mum and dad are using Avea but they can't communicate from everywhere with Avea.

I don't know about the best one..
But the worst is definitely Telsim/Vodaphone
They still cannot clean the stain of Uzan family from thier trademark.. and their commercials surely suck!

Your question is a good one. I hope their marketing managers will be wise enough to keep an eye on the responses.

Why disqualifying the non-residents of Turkey?

Ask the armenians and greeks who know everything better about Turkey :-P

Ah yeah, and there was an Asturian or Asyrian something who came up to say bla bla bla about the Turkish people? So let's see what those guys might have to say for this question too :-))
