It sounds like you might have pulled a muscle. Unless you start to experience severe pain you don't need to rush to the doctor. Ten minutes of ice treatment can do wonders for mild pain. There are also a lot of menthol type of balms that could really help with your discomfort. If needed your regular general practitioner can test your range of motion. He/She can recommend the type of specialist you need based on an examination. This sounds like the type of injury you can get from pushing a heavy door with your shoulder. Maybe try to recall if you have done this recently or even carried something heavy. If the problem persists this information will help you and your doctors figure out the best solution.

Moist heat (Such as wet towels placed in the microwave) applied to the shoulder can bring down the pain. If you live where it's cold weather this can be intensifying the problem. I would recommend you see a chiropractor for A qualified diagnosis and for immediate relief.

What you are probably suffering from is TMS (tension myositis syndrome). Myo

means muscle. Your shoulder muscle is all tensed up. Because of the tension

there is not enough blood flow that brings the oxygen it needs to that area,

and that is, whats causing the pain.Believe that there is

nothing structually wrong with you. Stresses, big and small are the culprits

here. Today write down all the things that are bothering you, go back as far

as you can, become aware of any guilt and resentments you have, and

believe me we all have them.Let them go, there holding you back. Believe you

have the power to deal with any situations you may be faced with, today and

everyday thereafter.

Go and see a registered massage therapist. Have a great massage and tell them where the discomfort is, they can work on it and your company benefits might just cover the cost.
