This could be a sign of Trichotillomania whic is a form of Obsessive Compulsive Dissorder or OCD. I'll list a site for information on it under source. I don't know much about it, but I think if you feel that you have this problem, you should talk to a professional and see if they can treat you for it. Good luck.

I don't about the answe to your question. But I am here to tell you your ont alone in wondering this. I do the same thing. Not just a few strans either, small chunks at a time. I have a sever case of depression. I always thought it was related. But I'm not sure. I am not the type that can usual self inflict pain though. So it leaves me confused.

Just thought I'd let you know yoru not alone.

I think it's quite normal to pluck away the gray hair from the head. I have my son to pluck away my gray hair every once a week. I think this is a norm.

I wouldn't go so far as to say "mental illness" - it may be a sign of anxiety issues. Mention it to your physicial -depending upon the intensity of the hair plucking, he/she can give you advice on getting help for it.

I have never read anything about it but I think it is a mentle disorder from nervousness mostly, anxiety, I have done it before, I don't know why except I ws very nervous and anxious and couldn't stop...I am not mentally ill but do other strange things when I am really anxious or high srug aboout stuff.

Just like an eating disorder, drug addiction, alcoholism, compulsive gambling, etc. are mental illnesses.

It's a way people cope with things they can't cope with. Once the person gets professional help and discovers WHY they do this, then they can learn better ways of coping and won't do it anymore.
