They were rescued from a bus depot and have been living wild apart from the mechanics giving them food. If you try to touch them they spit. Otherwise they tend to hide under or behind things. At the moment I am leaving them alone so adjust to their new environment. I appreciate time will make them better but is there anything else I can do to bring them around.

Hi everyone has given some great advice... Time will be the factor... you will have to EARN their trust.. I have tamed several kittens and have had luck... try playing classical music in the room very low...then turn off music and go in the room and read a book outloud to them... get them used to you... try smelly yummy treats fresh chicken or tuna etc.. and just set it down beside you while you read... let them investigate you.. the more you push the harder it will be... they will get so curious about you that they will come towards you.. when they do just set your hand down on the ground slowly and let them sniff at you... work at it daily as many times as you can..put lots of toys in the room also..stimulation is a good thing... .. the more you go in there the better!!! you just have to stick with it.. hopefully there is not alot of hiding places(if there is make it so that ther is less spaces to hide if you can- if you have a spare bathroom that works great) in the room you have them in so they will have to look at you and then they will (in time) realize you are not a threat... remember you took them out of their space and they are scared to death.. good luck...smile..

ps... there is a homeopathic remedy called "rescue remedy" you can get at any local health food store and put a couple drops in their wet food... it wont hurt or sedate it will just help take the edge off.....completely safe for humans and pets also!!!!

When i found my kitten it was the same way. What i did was i always hand feed it. I would also pet the cat with a glove on, that is so that the cat can get used to your touch and so that you dont lose a finger or a lot of blood. Being around the animal will also help the cats adjust to having human interaction, but in my experience touch brought on the most difference.

My kitten now wont leave my side and hides in my breifcase. Ive accidentally taken it to work twice.

Give them time -- at that age, they are still tameable. Talk to them gently when you offer them food, let them decide to come to you, rather than chasing them around. Sit quietly and watch nearby while they eat, talking in soothing, gentle tones, so they associate you with food and friendship (which is probably different than the mechanics just setting out a bowl and leaving it for them.) Let them sniff your hand calmly and quietly if they want, but don't grab at them. When they get used to your home and you, they will eventually decide to be friends, because all young kittens crave love and affection. These just need to learn that you are the source of it!

I've rescued a cat from a drain and it was in a sad condition-bad trauma. I name it Dash (for obvious reason) :) the same exact situation like yours as well. there's nothing much to do, just don't give up hope. smooth talking to it every day. i just put the cat food near to its hiding place, it eventually come out when nobody's around. in 1 month time my Dash is the cutest cat ever and it sleeps with me every night now. I'm sure yours will be all right too.

They will get used to you. Stay around them, but let them hide. Tals to them calmly, and if you manage to hold them, pet them and hug them etc. Provid enice clean litter and nice food, and a warm place to sleep, and they will sonn realize you love them. It was the same with some kittens rescued in the riding school I go to. I went there yesterday after 1 month I had not seen them, and they were all cuddly and purring, whereas I could never find them a month ago, they were hiding and hissing!

I've had an experience similar to this. We took a cat away from someone we know because her son was mistreating it and they weren't feeding it. We brought her home and she was violent; she'd spit and claw whenever we tried to pet her, and didn't get along with our other cats. We just gave her time and tried to pet her gently as she became more comfortable in our home, and now she's such an affectionate cat that she gets on our nerves XD So I think you're doing all that you can.

Good luck!

Yes, you could try to play with them like dangling a yarn sting in front of them, otherwise if that don't I guess you just have to leave them alone for awhile.

Just keep doing what you are doing and let them come to you. They are young enough to be socialized. I would call a shelter or rescue and ask them for advice on how they socialize young kittens. Good luck : )
