Those are the retarded ones who don't want men to do anything at all for them. There is a line between being nice and belittling. Glad to hear someone else is annoyed by this too. If you want me, you damn straight better open the door for me, pull out my chair, the whole works, I want a gentleman not a scum bag.

Not EVERY woman is like that, just the crazies. And while I'm not (as a woman) adverse to holding the door open for men in certain cases (hands full, carrying a baby, etc), it IS nice to know that there are still guys out there (like my hubby) who DO go a little bit further to be nice to people.
You wouldn't BELIEVE the number of times I've had my hands full with my daughter and stroller, etc., and struggled with a door while 2 or 3 males just kinda stood there stupidly. And it's pretty sad when you have to have the door held open by an elderly woman in that case while those men just stood there and let HER open her own door.
So while you say "what's happening with these women", I also say "make sure you set a good example for men, regardless of how stupid SOME women act!"
And thank you for being one of those ones who DO still do this for women (and probably older men and children also!). You get kudos.

I've never heard of this before but it sounds rude. Some people just don't have any manners. I think holding a door for someone is a polite thing to do whether it's a man holding the door or a woman. A simple thank you is in order.

Sometimes it is hard for girls who have been told their entire lives that they are not supposed to need men and that they can and should do everything for themselves. I actually had to be taught by my guy friends to let them hold the door for me (they would run the last couple of steps to get the door before me). I appreciated it (and I always say thank you), but it used to make me feel embarrassed. I have always held doors for people and consider it polite behavior, but for some reason it was different when someone was holding it for me. Know that there are people who appreciate what you do and I hope you don't stop just because some women are idiots (that includes people like me who simply have a hard time accepting help in any form).

I like it if someone holds the door open for me but it can be done without being obviously sexist about it. If I'm the one walking a little ahead & have my hands free, and a guy is walking a bit behind me with his hands full, it is annoying if he speeds up past me, has to wrestle with the door to open it for me, half blocking it 'cause his own arms are so full of stuff. That's just stupid!!! It takes twice as long as when we'd both just gone through in the order we'd arrived in, and I'd held it open for him.... next time chances are he'll get there first and maybe I'll have my hands full and then sure I appreciate it if he opens it.
Door etiquette should be
-first person getting to the door holds it for the person behind
-person with his/her hands free holds it for the person with his/her hands full.
It's just so much *easier* that way!
Don't particularly like people holding up my coat either, I can never find the arm hole when they do that. Nor do I like it when they hold my chair, I like to know exactly where it is when I sit down and it feels uncanny when it moves when I'm in the process of sitting down, I've never once had it end up where I wanted it so I always have to adjust it afterwards. I know it's meant well but it makes it *harder* for me to put a coat on or to sit down, that can't be the way it's intended can it? :-)

I don't know any women who think like that...and i'm not a woman that thinks like that either. If a man holds the door open for me i thank them. I just think that there is actually nice men in the world. And that they are hard to find.

Tsk Tsk... should we pack for this ego trip?
There is nothing wrong with chivalry. I am completely capable of opening my own door but would very much appreciate the fact that gentlemen still exist and allow a man to open my door. I am a door holder. It is just common courtesy and has nothing to do with shagging in my opinion.

i'd like to consider myself a 'liberated woman' (i.e thanks to womens past efforts and acheivements i can vote, work and not "just end up being a housewife" if i choose not to be, not offence against housewives!)
I think it's just general rudeness to be honest. I've seen a mother struggling up the stairs with a pushchair and shopping while loads of people just pushed past her tutting. However, when my fiance and I asked her if she needed help, she just shouted "I CAN DO IT MYSELF!"...oops. Not everyone is like this though. The vast majority of people do appreciate a little kindness or politeness during their everyday lives. It shows that, even in this day and age, we still do care about each other and it shows more about you as a person than it does them.

I don't know why some women have this attitude. However, I will tell you, you could open the door for me anytime. So, just keep up the good work and continue showing manners and respect. They are obviously just a little uptight. I would not allow it to get to me, it is more about them, and less about you. God bless****

Beats me. Frankly I'm surprised nowadays if anyone holds the door for me.
On my part, if I'm going through a swinging door and there's someone behind me, regardless of age or sex, I always hold the door.
...sometimes, I wish I didn't but, eh, you never know when you may meet a genuinely nice person.
