I dont see why you shouldnt vacuum. Shoveling snow is bad though your not supposed to strain yourself too much lifting can tear the placenta from the baby. This is no wives tale.

I would say that it is a wives tale that doing these things may harm the baby, like raising your arms above your head. But really I think it depends on your pregnancy. If you are having a "normal" pregnancy, there is no reason that you can't shovel snow or vacuum if you feel comfortable doing it. With my oldest two I was shoveling snow up until they were born (one in Feb. and one in March) and I live in MN. Of course I also vacuumed with all three (I was actually vacuuming when I went into labor with my second child). I would recommend that you speak to your doctor of your concerns and follow his/her advice, but also listen to your body. It will tell you if you are pushing it to far and if you need to take a break or slow down and take it a bit easier. Also, if you for any reason, don't feel comfortable doing something, then don't do it. This is the time to enlist all friends, family and neighbors to help you out. BTW congratulations on the baby.

I was told when I got pregnant to not start any new activity or exercise, and continue doing what I was doing in the past. You really should talk with your OB/GYN to check and make sure the activities you do are safe in the first place.

Unless you are a high-risk pregnancy, I see no reason that you should not vacuum. I don't know about the shoveling of the snow, though. If it is really heavy, that can be hard on the body.

Its not do to fear of hurting the baby. The baby is and will be fine with you doing normal activities and even some slightly strenuous activities. The main concern is your lower back. With becoming pregnant and having an added weight (the baby) weighing down your front side/lower abdominal region it puts a lot of strain on your lower back. Bending over vacuuming or shoveling snow can only put more strain on your back.

I would not recommend shoveling snow! That can do alot to your body even when your not pregnant!! However the vacuuming I could never understand and have always done it myself (2 pregnancies) Now if you are under certain restrictions and are having a high risk pregnancy, well I would listen to everyone!!
My family and friends would say that the cord could wrap around the babies neck if I reached too much, Blah, blah blah, Never had a problem!! Good luck to you....Enjoy! It Goes very fast!!

Dear, Why would you attempt to do such a thing. It's difficult for those who are in good shape to shovel the snow. The old saying is this, you could cause the cord to wrap around the baby's neck and upon delivery, cause it to strangle the baby. No strenuous exercise of any kind should be preformed by you at this time. Pamper yourself and your baby. I would vote truth, better to be safe than sorry.

you can keep doing most of the things you did before pregnancy. just dont tire yourself out or strain your stomach. i wouldn't shovel any heavy snow, but i would see no problem with a light snow and only a little bit of a path, vacuuming can actually be good exercise for you (if you have a good vacuum). light exercise is recommended during pregnancy, walking, prenatal yoga, ect.

Some women take the pregnancy thing way too far. My sister in law couldn't vacuum the pool. I did everything up until my due date. I had no problems. So, I think they're old wives tales. My doctor never told me to stop doing anything other than changing the kitty litter box.

I would not shovel the snow, I dragged a rug outside when I was pregnant thinking nothing of it because I am a work horse, I had a miscarriage. So take it easy.

NO snow shoveling!!! thats too much on you when pregnant. The vaccuum depends if you have one of the old ones that are very heavy might be better for someone else to do it but if yours is light weight then you should have no trouble with it.
