Insurance follows the car, not the driver. If you were driving someones vehicle with permission, you were covered under his insurance. Of course, if you backed into someone, you are at fault. So you tell the owner "I had an accident" and he reports it to his insurance which takes care of the other driver. Now you pay for the damage you did to his car. Hopefully you remain friends after this.

That depends. Legally, (and I am not practicing law without a license), the owner can file a claim through his own insurance (a first party claim; in fact, he needs to notify his own carrier under the policy terms, as the other party's carrier will come after his in subrogation, if the other party puts the claim through their own, as a first party claim. Failure to report a loss may result in a coverage denial, and the owner does not want to go down that route. Now, if you were not a permissive user of this car, you may be denied coverage under the owner's plan. Then you must notify your car insurance carrier, if you have one. The other owner always has the option of going through his carrier, but, he may not have first party (collision) coverage, and you are at fault, or liable, for the accident, it appears. So, you all must put your respective insurance carriers on notice of what happened, to protect yourself monetarily. Good luck! :)

i'm assuming you filed a declare with the coverage organization that covers the different motorized vehicle, top? if so, your husband must have agreed to have the automobile repaired. The coverage organization did a harm appraisal and also you may want to ask for a examine quite and be finished with it, it is your determination. you're not to any extent further obligated to have the upkeep finished yet you're entitled to the money because she damaged your automobile.

Insurance follows the vehicle. Your friend needs to turn in a claim to their insurance company for the damages
Any time you let someone drive your vehicle you are also letting them use your insurance.

The "owner" of the car files the claim, but the traffic-ticket goes to YOUR licence.
If you "backed up" into someone, it's your fault.

You caused the damage! why should the nice person have to pay for your wreck! you should pay as you should be extra careful with other peoples property! Why would you even think of sticking the bill for the repairs on someone that was not in control of the car at the time. Be nice take responsibility for your actions and pay yourself! your friend should have to pay higher insurance premiums for your wreck!

You do, as the driver. You should be covered to operate other vehicles including ones owned by others as well as rentals.
