There is quite a good book on the Inquisition, can't remember the title though it might just be 'Inquisition', and as I recall I don't think its even officially ended. The Spanish part was merely the most egregious.

The king and queen of Spain asked the Vatican to send an Inquisitor to Spain to conduct trials on whether certain Catholics were true to the faith. If the catholic was found not to be true, they were declared a heretic and turned over to the Spanish civil authorities for punishment. It is the Spanish king and queen who ordered the torture and murder of the heretics.

To the contrary, the Vatican has openly admitted that the methods of the Inquisition were brutal and dishonest and apologized--numerous times--for the evils carried out in the name of the Church during that period.

The spanish crown should appologize, not the Catholic church. The church didn't authorize the inquisiton it was started by the king and queen of spain. When the church found out what was going they put a stop to it.

If you haven't noticed the Vatican has never been terribly good at modeling Christ.

Because the church speaks god's thoughts, and god's thoughts are infallable you worm, don't question the validity of the church or you will be burned for heresy!

If it wasn't all that bad, as you say, then why apologise?
