Take it from someone with experience in this area, get a dog or cat to keep you from being lonely. The dating service works for a few months, but after that you will still be lonely, only now you will have a bunch of losers in your life desperately clinging to you, sucking the life out of you, and making you wish you had gotten a dog or cat instead.

Dating services can be great....depending on the service you use. I personally met my husband through one...it was a video dating service called Great Expectations. And we have been together almost 20 years (17 of them married). I don't know if they are still out there, but they were very professional and really took care of their clients...especially if you ran into a problem! You have to be very careful there are a lot of weirdo's out there. I don't know if computer services are as safe as dealing with real people in a real office.
I have to admit I met some really great guys (including my hubby) that I would never have met in my normal day to day life. It was fun to do as well. I wasn't driven by loneliness to join, I just wasn't meeting anyone....and neither were any of my also single friends. So I took a chance, spent some money, and haven't regretted one moment or dollar since. Good luck on whatever you decide to do...just always be careful and protect yourself.

I don't think that those are your only two options. The best place for anyone to meet like-minded people is an organization which is involved in an issue for which you have a passion. If you are interested in politics, you should do volunteer work for a political candidate or a political party. If you are interested in a cause, like clean water, join an organization that is working on that cause. If you want to learn a new skill, like creative writing, or a new language, take a class.
And it probably goes without saying, but don't act needy. That definitely scares people away. Good luck.

My friend Jenn and i had decided that we would give it 6 months, then join a dating service, but about a week after making that decision i started dating. Either way, i guess it wouldn't hurt. I say go with e-harmony. I have heard many good things about that site.

my suggestion is that it is better not to use dating service. Because you dont know what kind of people you are going to meet. If you are a spiritual person, then you should be able to meet guys from church or local community activites. Or if you are party type of person, try the clubs ( i wouldnt recommend this). Or Try Bars, or singles mingles events
