Unfortunately, I did not have the greatest relationship with my father growing up. A lot of the traditional songs don't apply to my father and I. I could use all the help in finding a more appropriate song for us to dance to. We have an OK relationship now, again, just OK.

I just went to a wedding last week, and they danced to the song called Daughters. I think it is by John Mayer. It was so cute:) Its the sweetest song ever.

Tim McGraw's new song is a really good song. I believe the title is "My little Girl". It speaks of a father and daughters close relationship and has a part about the little girl getting married. Its very sweet.

I reccommend "my girl" by the temptations, its a pretty general song, and thats what Im using for my father-daughter dance. my reasons are different tho, I am super close to my dad, and every other song I have heard makes me boo-whoo! this one is general enough so I can make it through it without cryin my eyes out, but its still cute and sweet enough to use for this type of dance, my photographer reccomended it to me and God bless her for it! also, check out this site, www.ourweddingsongs.com
they have songs for all occasions and i got some great ideas from it, so you may find another idea you like! good luck and I'm sorry to hear things aren't better!

How about Landslide by Fleetwood Mac?

I took my love, I took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around
I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
'Till the landslide brought me down

Oh, mirror in the sky
What is love
Can the child within my heart rise above
Can I sail through the changing ocean tides
Can I handle the seasons of my life

Well, I've been afraid of changing
'Cause I've built my life around you
But time makes you get bolder
Even children get older
And I'm getting older too

Oh, take my love, take it down
Climb a mountain and turn around
If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well the landslide will bring it down

If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well the landslide will bring it down.

ETA:I suggest this because your story about your relationship with your father, Stevie Nicks wrote this song for her dad after a long and hard relationship with him. They reconciled late in his life and she wrote this then.

My step-father adopted my younger brother and I at a really young age (about 6) and I didn't get along w/him for years.... but I eventually came to love him more than my biological father and now I see him as my FATHER! I am playing Brad Paisley's "He didn't have to be" for my father/daughter dance! It fits our relationship well.... Maybe your's also! Hope this helps you!

The one song that i can think of is UNFORGETTABLE by
Nate King Cole-- But use the new version that his daugther Natalie Cole made, also To Dance With My Father Again By
Luther Vandross, or use any song by Luther.

That new one sung by Tim McGraw for the movie Flicka. It's something about "My little girl" ...that may be the title of the song. Look up the movie and I'm sure it will come up in the credits. Also there's another country song on the radio now called "I loved her first".
