They can live quite amicably side by side. Cats have very sharp claws and these are very effective at scratching a delicate fox's nose so, as a rule, the foxes keep their distance. We have two foxes who live in the wild behind our garden and our male ginger cat has grown up very happily from a kitten with them in the vicinity. He actually is very friendly with them and is convinced HE is a fox . He has watched attentively wild life programmes about them (though nothing else on television) and he invites them into our garden where they bask on our lawn like guests at a royal garden party whilst he gives short shrift to any other cat that trespasses over our boundary. I am sure the invitations are reciprocated and that he gets to visit their headquaters as he regularly comes back with fleas but I treat him with "advantage 40 " from our vet and that is very effective.
I hope this puts your fears at rest.

PS. I used to worry myself sick over this when we first moved here, but we have had twelve cats along the years and none were injured by foxes. One was blinded by a stray cat however. We have a cat flap and our cats have always come in and out quite freely. I would tend to agree with the person who posted that if your cat has been close to foxes and they have not harmed him then he is pretty safe. All our neighbours have cats too, and when one is injured it usually is by a speeding car. Our beautiful Birman was killed that way and it took me months to get over her death.

Foxes are quite timid and any adult cat can see one off. Theres a famous bit of film of a cat chasing a fox off the dog food that the owner had left out for the foxes.

Be very careful, foxes will kill a cat, expecially if they are hungry and if the think the cat is a danger to their food supply. Also if the fox has cubs close by they will treat the cat as hostile. I had a cat savaged by a fox in broad daylight, he was lucky to live through it and we didnt christen him Tyson for nothing... He was BIG, and it was very big Vets bill.

Cats are a tasty snack for a hungry fox. A fox will not challenge a cat unless hungry. Like me, they recognise cats are more trouble that they are worth and never tangle with them without just cause. Remember, fox's carry worms that can blind children, as well as lice and fleas. Best to keep the feline away unless you want some more interesting pets in the house.

My cats have lived alongside foxes for years. Although they're not exactly close buddies, they ignore each other and get with their own lives. A vet told me, they are quite equal in their defence and armoury and avoid all confrontation because of it. In the wild, similar animals of equal disposition can not risk being injured and will actively avoid each other. A small bite to a fox or ferrel cat may result in infection and later, death.

Foxes will kill cats. We have a lot of foxes where I live so I always keep my cats in at night.

In sat Daily Mail there was article about Fox's and it said they would not bother a fully grown cat but might attack a kitten I tend to keep my cat in after it gets dark and let her out not too early in the morning hope that helps!

i did have a friend whose cat got attacked by a fox, i think it was just trying to defend itself. i think foxes are generally quite timid, but i still worry about my cats as there are a lot of foxes in my area.
