progressive scan. TV is Sony XBR2 40 inch (new). When I hook the component cables up I get a red and green screen. I have tried two sets of cables and both component inputs on the TV and the same thing happens. Anyone know why or have a suggestion on how to fix it? How do I determine if this is a DVD issue or TV issue? Thanks

The connections were correct. I tried it numerous times, and in both component hook ups on the back of TV. Unfortunately, I do not have an HDMI input on back of DVD player.

Thanks Chris,
I don't have another TV with component inputs and that is why I was unable to do what you suggested. I thought there may be another reason but I can try it with a friends TV as see what happens.

Thanks to all. The problem was in the DVD player. With no DVD in the player, I was able to access the player menu as suggested and had to change the setting from composite to component. Thanks again!!

There may be a setting you have to change on your dvd player. It could be as simple as a switch on the back/ side of your player, or you may have to go into the menu on your dvd player (not movie menu, but player menu).

You want to turn interlaced off, and turn progressive scan on.

Are you sure you aren't mixing up Component and Composite?

There are three cables required for Component; two have similar names (Pr and Pb). You may have to program the Toshiba to let it know it's now outputting progressive Component to get it to work right.

If you really do have it hooked up correctly, you can switch two of the cables and see if the picture changes. If it doesn't, the problem's in the TV; if it does, the problem's in the DVD player. Take the DVD player into a video store to confirm the results. Also, make sure the cables are all good, too, before heading into the store...

This should be the connection problem. Ensure your component connection are correct, i.e. Green to Green, red to Red and Blue to Blue. If possible, use HDMI cable to connect the DVD player to the TV.

Hook up the DVD to another TV to see if the problem persist. If so, then it's the DVD but if not then it's the TV.
