I like to go wit hmy husband every once in a while, just because he is so picky and I never know what to buy that he will eat. But for the most part I like to shop alone. It is less stress. One time I took my brother and 2 step sons who are all ages 7,8 and 9. That was an experiance that will never be repaeted.

Yep, guilty!
Hubby, the 3(or4) kids and I all go to the supermarket together.
It started with hubby and I going because we had 2 kids between us from prev. relationships and going out on a regular basis didn't happen-and 'home time' for him was minimal, so we cooked special meals and shopped for them together too-choosing the wines etc set the scene-and, I guess, a precedent for the future.
It's practicalities now though too,the 'big shop' generally involves 2 trolleys but we enjoy the shop together, the eldest ones get to choose a food/meal each and we pootle up and down the aisles deciding what we do and don't want.
Probably a bit sad to some people but it does mean that when we forget something, WE forgot it (which avoids arguments) and if there's nothing we fancy for tea then it's OUR fault-and of course we both know how much everything is so neither one of us is clueless.
More than anything else though it's just nice to have that 'family feeling'-for us both to be responsible for what our kids are eating and for the kids to see and pick new and interesting foods-and learn the value of a quid too.

I wonder why they do this too, cluttering the place up in their big family huddle and ill placed trolley. Between the parents, they cannot seem to control the little brats who hoon around screeching and eating the food before it's paid for.
I wish they would leave the tribe at home and do it themselves... until they get to thecheckout, where they spend ten minutes gossipping with the cashier and God knows how long making a half-arsed attempt at packing 2 items per plastic bag, dropping it all on the floor and generally not getting out of the way.
Better still, there should be a competent persons' speed aisle, where those of us who are capable of doing the shopping without such great difficulty could avoid these morons.

I hate that - no I just go with my baby daughter - lovely stress free shop! When I'm with everyone else we only end up with the older one (4) touching things she shouldn't on the shelves and knocking things over, tantrums, partner wanting to fill up the trolley with just doughnuts and biscuits, arguing over the price of things and why do I buy that etc etc etc. I even had a brief period of getting up early and going to our 24 hour Tesco so we were practically the only ones in the store! Nice... an got the whole shop done in 20 mins!

I like to shop on my own too.
I really hate wandering down the aisles & coming upon a "squad" of kids spread out across the aisles all shouting "I want" at the same time. The best time to shop in our local Tesco is either after 11pm or before 8am when all the kids are in bed. The queues are always shorter tthen also.

Yes I am one of those women who take my family shopping with me. I guess I'm weird. I actually enjoy the time I spend with my family. I don't have "stress" when we go shopping. Our children know how to behave in public places and know not to ask for every little thing they see and if they do ask for something and I say no they know better than to throw a fit.

Well I work all week and my husband is a stay at home dad so to give him a break from the kids at the weekend I take all five who are living at home grocery shopping with me.
It can be a nightmare but you have to compromise in marriage. I envy you and your peaceful shopping.
Seriously though once I involve the kids and lay down the ground rules it can be almost fun, if they behave we all go and get icecream together afterwards,it can be a neat way to spend time together.

Some families feel that if they involve their children in the food buying/preparation process they will eliminate food battles
And they are correct! also some families are spending time together while shopping, you should try it it is very satisfying to delegate some responsibility to the rest of the family because not only do you get done quicker but you also give them a sense of belonging as well as a sense of accomplishment in the spirit of team work and family harmony

Oh No - not with my husband. On the few times he has been in a grocery store with me, we end up with twice the junk food at 3 times the cost. Besidse that, I agree with you, I like to take my time, figure out what I feel like cooking that week. It's my down time also. And as for children, if there was a child free grocery store I would pay more to shop there. Nothing is worse that children running up and down the isles, running into you and somehow it's your fault, or their screaming temper tantrums over not being able to buy a pack of gum.

No, well I have a 16 month old daughter and when it's time to do the big monthly shop I get mum to look after her. As we only go once a month it's a very busy and stressful time so I can't be doing with screaming kids!
