North Korea fired on an SR-71 "from the remote NK peninsula of Chokto-ri". Its in the book by Gen. Wickham. Unsuccessfully, but how did they do that? and where on the map is this place?

Well, you point an SA-2 Guideline at the SR-71 and press the button. It is intended for defeat of manned and pilotless air attack weapons at the heights from 100 m to 30 km, which fly with speeds of up to 3000 km/h, at the distances to 58 km.

I can't locate Chokto-ri on any map... then again, the DPRK isn't fond of handing out maps

They might as well throw rice at the Blackbird for all the good it would do. Too bad there aren't any left in military stables anymore. No SR-71 was ever lost due to enemy action & they overflew the most hostile places with the most advanced air defenses anywhere.

Any surface to air missle could fire at one hitting it is a different story and would be unlikely since by the time it was fired the SR-71 would have been half way home.

I doubt if you can find it in google maps. They might have "intentionally erased" that place.
