Immigration and Customs rarely smile when you check-in; the true spirit of the people is when one spends time with them in different situations and places - from roadside foodstalls to fine dine restaurants; from boisterous city folks to pleasantly calming villagers. There is some kind of warmth, benevolence and goodness that infects one's spirit, mood and experiences as the time passes. And when it comes to leaving you begin to feel a dull ache wondering when you can enjoy being among those simple wonderful folks again. That's when you know for sure this is a good country to experience and enjoy for a lifetime. I have had this experience only in two Asian countries: Thailand. South Korea. Asia's most hospitable.

Thailand or The Philippines. The people in both countries are very friendly and warm hearted. Of these, I pick The Philippines because English is more commonly spoken and there is less openness of the "sex business" than in some parts of touristy Thailand.

I would say Thailand. People are friendly and kind. After all it's tag line is 'the land of smile'. Also, most Thais still live their lives by the phrase: Mai Pen Rai which means take it easy.

I have been to most Asian countries and I enjoy going back to Vietnam the most. Food great, scenery fantastic and the people very friendly. There are many people that speak English, French and Russian; so communications is not difficult. That is my pick. cheers.
