You can be friends with anyone you want. And as long as you never mentioned sex with her, I wouldn't worry about it. You aren't going to have any legal trouble from this, but you might have trouble with her boyfriend and his gang. So you might want to go to the police yourself.

It is not illegal to be friends with someone younger than you however peoples "perceptions" can be very critical at times.

Often times people obtain "sexual gratification" over the internet. This can compromise those laws established to protect our children should certain events occur. For instance, the distribution of child pornography IS illegal.

My strongest recommendation to you is let the friendship go! The female being in a gang is the first and foremost reason.

Secondly, what makes you so sure she's not trying to "blackmail" you for the money and only using the "get out of the gang" issue as a ruse.

Time to cut the ties and find someone who is worth your time.

Best wishes!

It is called extortion and it is a crime. You need to contact the local cop shop and tell them what is up. I am telling you from experience these scumbags do anything they can for money.
I knew a person who was friends with a younger girl and tried to be a good guy, then her brother called and made threats. He said he was scared, and I told him don't worry about it they are bluffing probably. Guess what? Nothing else happened...
Best advice, stay away from gang members, they truly are trouble, that's why they call them gang members.
People who hang together, do good deeds and help the community are called service organizations like Optimists, Kiwanis, Boy and Girl Scouts.
People who hang together to break the law, make money illegally, hurt people.. their groups are called... (shocker here!) gangs!

i don't think it is wrong to be strictly friends with someone underage however this scenario seems to be causing you much pain and uncertainty so this situation isn't great for you. caring for people is understandable however caring for people that may hurt you in any way is not a good idea. if i were you i would talk to an attorney and consider talking to the police. if she is in trouble she will need help but only by someone who is equiped to offer the kind of support she needs and i don't think that is you. you do need to protect yourself both legally and personally and gangs are not to be messed with. however, it sounds like this girl might be simply trying to extort you.
