I want to get my hair nice healthy and long, but i dont know how to do it, so i always wear my hair in braids, and when i take the braids out, i always end up getting more, because although my hair is not bad, i know that if i leave it out long enough i would soon manage to damage it. What should i do to get healthy, nice hair?

"REFORMED TROLL" is a complete f'ing jerkface. Ignore his stupid ***. Guaranteed, he was dumped by a black woman, and writing awful things on here is his only revenge. My white uncle loves black women and his life partner for many years is a wondeful black woman.
The best way to get good hair, regardless of your ethnicity is to do what works well for your type of hair.
Don't fight your hair type!! Wear what is easiest and uses the least chemical processing.
Don't try to make your hair look "white", it'll look like you are trying to hard. Look up to Lauryn Hill, and copy her style. She generally keeps her hair short, but in excellent condition. She either puts it in an afro-like style or braids.
Look at pics of Nia Long and Halle Berry with short hair in the mid-nineties. Also, look at Josephine Baker in the 1920's.
They were smoking hot, but kept a style that was natural to their hair type and they looked wonderful with it.
I think Halle Berry looks awful with long hair, personally.

Stay away from any chemicals [relaxer, dye, perms]. Alternatively, splurge on hair oils, thick conditioners, and any kindof treatment that will give moisture to your hair w/o changing it chemically. Indian stores have this great hair oil you can wear overnight, and it smells really great. I think it's called "Vatika", I try to use it frequently.

Also, get your hair trimmed on a regular basis. It'll make the shaft of the hair healther/shinier if the ends are in good shape.
Also, keep your natural hair color. Again, dyes will alter the chemical nature of your hair = bad. Also, unnatural hair colors are on the way out. so sick of women w/ highlights and grown out roots. Women look sooo much sexier when they embrace their god given color. *whew, steps off soapbox*

you really have not said what texture hair you have...is it like 4a? braids are nice to grow the hair long so you can keep the braids until your hair gets the length that you want and then wear it natural and loose or get a relaxer. But you must study how to maintain you relaxer so your hair does not get damaged. this lady is helpful..

My kids are mixed so they have that curly puffy hair. I would first wash their hair and use VO5 hair straightener right after, and comb it straight. This is a leave in formula.
Then the next morning, I would put in VO5 frizz rescue. This will cut down the puffy hair. Their hair is down to the middle of their back so you can imagine a lot of puffy, dried out, frizzy hair.

VO5 is a good product and it's cheap. And NO, I don't work for VO5 and this is NOT a commercial.

Use it and you will see the difference. It smells good too.

You already have good hair. It always amazes me when you Black girls start talking about 'good' hair, as if you don't believe God already gave it to you. You have an inferiority complex my dear. Maybe you can start by stop putting Drano on your hair to make it straight. Have you seen what Drano does to hair clogs in drains? Don't you think it would do the same thing to your hair? Then you can stop the almost daily use of fiery hot irons & curlers in an attempt to get your hair straight looking. Next, leave the braids alone because they are going to eat up your hairline till you don't have one left.

you have to treat the actual hair and using braids. Use a good conditioner and take it easy on styling products. natural is better, don't try to be white
