yes you can as long as it doesnt contain more than 100ml in liquid and your hand luggage meets the size requirements, there is no problem.

No problem buying a drink airside and taking it on the plane.

Please note, I travelled last week from Liverpool and there were VERY STRICT on one piece of hand luggage only - even if you just have a small hand bag or carrier bag these are counted as 1 piece each so you have been warned!

See Department of Transport link for restrictions within Europe including UK directly below:-

On many budget airline that do not serve 'free' food, you are allowed/expected to take your food with you to be eaten in the plane. But when flying to the USA, you are not allowed to take more than 100ml of any liquids, including drinking water, except medicines and baby foods (which must be 'authenticated').

Yes you can take food with you on the aircraft. The current restrictions are focused on liquids, although after you are through security you can purchase drinks to bring on the aircraft with you. For a full list of items that you can and can not bring on the aircraft with you, you should go to the TSA website http://www.tsa.gov/

I'm sure they would run it through the x-ray machine.

Why not call the airline and ask them.

Post 9/11 everything is up in the air.

Yes. You are still limited on the amount of liquid you can take - so avoid drinks and soups - but you should be OK with sandwiches and cakes etc.
