I think it depends on the woman but for the most part, yes I think it is nuts....unsafe for their male partners and them as well...
If I am getting mugged I really don't want a 120 pound woman trying to help, would rather a big old dude with attitude...good quesion..

I think I know what you are talking about.
Back in the early days of women in law enforcement, they were forced to keep their weapon locked in the trunk of their car. The trunk was usually jam packed full of womanly items like makeup, hairspray, spare nylons, curlers, and plenty of Kleenex for all the things that make dainty women cry, like mean wife beaters on a domestic violence call.
Fortunately for those female officers, this has all changed. Since people like my sister are in law enforcement, they are no longer required to store their weapon in the trunk along with their formal gown in case they have to answer a call at a prom.
Now if you get a little handsy, or have a weapon, some female officer like my sister who runs several miles a day and lifts weights may shoot your butt, or just plain whup you.
So, I don't have a problem with female officers who pull their weight. There are some who don't do a very good job sometimes, and there a lot of male cops who don't do a very good job at times. It is all in the person.

How do you mean? I've known some women police officers who were excellent in their jobs. They knew the rules, they knew how to work with people to calm them down, they knew how to negotiate with upset people who were mad at the world, they knew how to use their badge and uniform as a symbol of authority, and they knew how to fight if necessary. And most of them are very good at it.

If you're talking about being strong enough to fight with someone, keep in mind that that's about the second to last thing that most cops will ever want to do. They're prepared to, of course, but having to fight means that they've lost control if a situation, and the outcome is not always certain. If they can use their authority and their wits and talk to someone and get them to do what they want them to, they are better off for (almost) all involved.

Oh, and don't get in a fight with a cop. The ones I know have more dirty tricks than anyone else. Even a woman cop can probably cause you more pain faster than you'd ever believe. This ain't the "Police Academy" movies.

I would in a heart beat risk my life to protect another human being... yes I would,... also, food for thought,...
IF you a man were a cop, you pulled over a female who is well known for making false reports about sexual harrassment, who is best for the search of her person for drugs and weapons? A woman would best know where and how a woman would hide things! Besides a female in corrections is just as good as a man, when it comes to probation/parole and jail guards/officers a female IS best for the female clients since a 'good girl' will know how a 'bad' one thinks and what they are up to. A man is apt to be 'looking' and a female would see thru the games they paly. 'oh feel sorry for me, I am poor and have 5 babies to feed, I did not mean to do it,... boo-hoo.... I a female would not fall for that crap I would bust her straight up, I am a zero tollerance for BS so how could I be a bad cop?

Being in law enforcement for over thirty years...I've seen good and bad officers from BOTH sexes.

Simply because the officer is female doesn't mean she is any less capable of handling herself or situations based solely upon her sex.

I've worked next to some very outstanding female officers and have no problem with their abilities to do the job. Actually, in some instances, I'd rather have a female officer present.

Sometimes they can do things better than male officers!

Best wishes!

No much more than a male partner. Apparently you have never been in law enforcement. It's the character and skills of the officer, not the gender that is important.

You don't know much about the capabilities of each sex do you?

I served in the military with women that could outrun, outpush, outshoot just about everybody.

Women can be as fit as men and as driven.

Also, given the assortment of non-lethal takedown weapons available to officers these days what does physical stature matter so much?

I don't think so at all. I think a woman, just like a man, knows exactly what is in store for her when she signs up. She knows she has to be tough, and most women do not want special treatment. I think they know what they are getting into or they wouldn't have picked this career.

All cops are ridiculous. Can't make grades, become a cop. Join the army, become a cop. What are they risking their lives for?(a donut? Most cops dont risk their lives. Most sit around and hand out speeding tickets or harass teenagers. Hey ma'am i need back-up over here. I have hippies over here smoking pot, bring your gun.

Women are trained to defend themselves just the same as a man. It's not just in the strength in someones body, it's how they use it.

And why is it, that a man gets credit if he's a stay at home dad or raises kids on his own?

Not if they can meet the same physical standards as men.

I don't know about police departments, but they don't have to in the Military. I think that's unfortunate. For the women who CAN meet male fitness standards, it must seem a little bit of an insult.
