Yes I am. I am in my sixth year on active duty and love every minute of it. I will get my thoughts out now too. I am in the U.S. Coast Guard. Although rarely recognized, we are indeed on of the five branches of the Armed Forces. We have been in every conflict and war since our formation in 1790. The biggest difference between us and the other four branches is that we are not combat oriented. We work Search and Rescue and Law Enforcement. Many, not all, but many Navy ships carry a Coast Guard LEDET (law enforcement detachment) on board to assist in boarding other vessels. We accomplish our missions worldwide and believe it or not, there are only 40,000 of us on active duty, the same amount of people on the New York City police department, and like I said, we are worldwide.

No I was back in 1987-1993 in the US NAVY. I served most of my tour in the Persian gulf aboard the USS LaSalle (AGF-3). Flagship for the 5th fleet. during which time I learned a great deal about Arab cultures. I still have shipmates who are still in and several friends who are in other branches some serving in Iraq right now.
