The Buddha taught "3 Baskets" of teachings to suit various levels of mentality, education, personality and disposition.

The Lotus Sutra focuses on "chanting" as a way to focus the mind, and contemplate upon the Qualities of the Buddha Amitabha, Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara or Kuan Yin and the like described within which is Compassionate Love for all beings. This method according to Tripitaka Master Hua helps devotees who are easily distract to bring about focus more easily... than heavy duty methods of meditation on Shamanta or Vispassana.

But THOSE methods are maybe more suited for those with analytical minds... each sutra both sankrit and pali canon has a place in the world to suit someone out there.

The Lotus Sutra doesn't say ..." oh, if you dont practice my method then, no liberation for you", it gives the devotee the freedom to go out, investigate, try and then come to their own conclusion which methods suits them best.

Because in the end... no matter what school of practice, which sutra's methods or which Buddha we cultivate... Liberation is in our own hands for no buddha, no guru, no king, no god, NO ONE can bestow enlightenment upon us, except through our own effort, perserverence and persistence.

I'm partial to the diamond sutra myself. I'll have to pick up the lotus sutra again and read it, it's been a while.
