my doctor gave me vicoden and I told my doctor i had trouble swallowing pills and he refused to perscribe me liquid medicine, is it safe to crush my pain medicine so I can take them easier and what bad can happen if I do this?

I think it should be OK, the nurse had to crush mine after I had a surgery because I was having problems swallowing, and there wasn't any problems. I dont think anything bad can happen inless you take too much. it also tastes really bad!

Nothing bad will happen. They'll take effect a lot quicker because they no longer need to dissolve in your stomach. You can buy pill crushers in any pharmacy for a couple dollars. Or put the pill between paper towel and crush with a rolling pin. The simplest thing is to chew them with a cup of coffee. Caffeine will effectuate the narcotic more quickly and hide the taste somewhat. "Just a spoon full of sugar makes the medicine go down, in the most delightful way." Vicodan is not a sustained release medication, therefore no ill effect will occur from ingesting it all at once. That danger only lies in meds like Oxycontin or MS Contin, etc. The "contin" means continuous or sustained release.

Generally you don't want to crush any pills however as long as it's not an extended release (XR) or continued release (CR) formulation it should be okay.
If your pill is scored (line down the middle) cut it in half or quarters, this will help with swallowing them.

I would try breaking it in half or quarters, you can get a pill splitter from your pharmacy for a buck or less. By breaking it you will have smaller pieces to swallow. And, the pill splitters break them evenly so you don't have to worry about not getting all of your medicine.

NO!! If you crush them then the med will hit ya too hard, the pills are made to disolve slowly in ut stomach if you crush them then all the meds will disolve at the the same time. Just take the pill and drink lots of water!!

This not a joke when i saw that question it sacred half too death,if you are planning on dying soon go ahead ,,i am a recovering pill addict my pill of choice was vicdon, i am lucky i did die because when i crushed them and took them i stopped breathing and i was crushed to the E R and the pumped my stomach break in half and swallow it with tall glass watter. please do not crush them go on the vicdon site read it put medicen in food.

yes, u can crush them, although it will taste like crap, i would mix it with corn syrup to help it go down easy. Just a little syrup is all u will need. and nothing bad will happen if u crush them.

its OK i have the same problem with pills. it might just not work as fast. if i was you will just try to swallow it . because you must be in a lot of pain .

Yes you can crush it. Actually it will help your body absorb it quicker if you crush or chew it.

i dont see why not. people crush it to snort it for a faster effect.im sure thats not your intentions but i dont see why not its all the same.
