I bought an upscale Sony DVD-recorder so I could make the DVDs for my mother-in-law in FL, but she can't view them. Does she need a special DVD player to view them? (i.e. DVD-R/RW, etc.?) I'm confused b/c she could view the CDs I converted from the miniDV to CD via computer but not the DVD-R? Help. This isn't my area of expertise, obviously!

Your mother-in-law probably has an old DVD player, like all mother-in-laws seem to own. For about $29.00 you can get her one that plays burned DVDs.

most new dvd players can play any format of a dvd including re writable dvd's if she has an older better dvd player it may not play burned dvd's. I have 1 that will not play anything but the real deal!
