You have a couple choices of what to do.
1. If it is from student loans you can return the money to your loans to keep your loan amount a little lower.
2. (what i do) Keep the money and do what you please with it. You are supposed to only spend it on living expenses and stuff like that but they don't keep track it's not like you have to report it to your school. As far as cashing the check just go to your bank or the bank the check is from. Depending on how much it is you can sometimes go to check cashing businesses.

The extra financial aid is your money. Either a loan or grant/scholorship of some type over paid the school and the excess is left for you.

What to do with the money? Well, It sounds good just to go and treat yourself to whatever you want because you have a few extra bucks burning through your pockets. It would be wisse to save it, I would even go so far as to say to pretend like you don't even have the money. One thing is for sure, you will really really need it and it's money that belongs to you. So put it in a bank, in an account aside from your primary checking.

You could cash the check anywhere. If you have a bank just take it to your bank and deposit it. If your bank isn't local than deposit it at a local banks atm, they will put it in your bank, no extra fees for that. Or, there should be a bank of origin on the check. Go to the bank and cash it.

Have fun... if you really want to spend it, spend it on me, I will make sure we both appreciate it! ;)

You can spend it on what ever you like, but just remember in the end you will still pay it all back if its a student loan.

Deposit it into a bank account.

Save it. Or if it has to be used, buy yourself a nice pizza. Maybe some books, a little "educational" field trip...

If you really can't think of anything, make a check out to "mec", I could use it!
