Most "Jews" are not Jews. Jew is from Yahudim which means worshipers of YHVH. When the Messiah told the Jews He came to set them free, they (John 8:36) denied that they were descended from Isaac, the child of the promise. Rev. 2:9 and Rev.3:9 helps shed some light on this subject. The ones in black, the "HASIDIM" are probably closest to the original followers, but the true faithful believe in the Messiah. that makes them faithful to Scripture, but Churchianity is NOT faithful, but is the Babylon that faithful believers are to come out of!

Pretty sad some of the answers here...

He was from the same tribe David came from, Judah. There is only 1 type of Jew but there are 12 tribes.

Being a Jew and an Israelite means the same thing. Judaism evolved as a system of religion.

Israel is a nation much like Australia is a nation. Its the same when you say Jew though Jew is personal and not usually associated with the nation.

Traditional tribes:

Reuben
Simeon
Levi
Judah
Issachar
Zebulun
Dan
Naphtali
Gad
Asher
Joseph
Benjamin

After getting the land:

Reuben
Simeon
Judah
Issachar
Zebulun
Dan
Naphtali
Gad
Asher
Benjamin
Ephraim (son of Joseph)
Manasseh (son of Joseph)

The black suit Jews are orthodox Jews. Still all the same but like the old ways. Kind of like the Amish in christianity.

Generally, you had to be born from and Israeli to be a Jew. Think of them as a race.

I'm spainish but I cannot be chinese. You can convert to Judaism but you won't be a true Jew or Israeli unless you can trace your roots back to a certain tribe.

There is only 1 kind of Jew/Israeli.

Jewish people are all Semitic, that is except from converts to Judaism, but these are very few, as Judaism is against conversion.
Jesus was a Jew from the Galilee, a Semite, the 12 tribes were history or myth in the time of Jesus, about 1000 years before these tribes began integration and tribal memory was erased by the time of Jesus.
today's Jews are separated according to the place they lived for the last few hundreds or thousands of years, there are European Jews, Middle eastern Jews, Yemenite Jews, Ethiopian Jews, Indian Jews, they usually have physical resemblance to the people they lived with, but all claim heritage to the Jews from Jesus time.
Jews You see today dressed in black Suits are ultra orthodox European Jews.

Jesus was more than likely a Semite, how pure is really hard to say. Persians, Greeks and Romans were in that area and took slaves, wifes and concubines over ages.

If we use the Native American and Black view, 0.001% is enough to qualify you as that race.

Jesus was a reformist. He was sent to challenge the old ways and teach a new way. He was getting ride of the "eye for an eye" view and turning into "turn the other cheek."

From what we gather he seems to be a more "traiditional" run of the mill "Semite." They ALL were very similar. They all wore robes, covered their heads a lot outside and wore sandle type shoes.

It was hard to tell a "Beddouin" (non-Hebrew Semite or Arab or even a Persian) from a rank and file Hebrew.

Further to the above which are mostly correct:

Semitic is a peoples/lamguage grouping covering Arabs,Jews,Phoenicians and Assyrians

Jesus was from the House(clan) of David-hence Davidic

For the twelve tribes read Exodus. It opens with the founders of the twelve tribes

Israel is a difficult concept. He was one of the ancestors but became associated with Jacob and his people

In the time of Solomon the kindom was split into Israell to the north and Judah to the south. If you really want to go there read Kings but it does get complicated as Solomon bankrupts the country building the Second temple and Jerusalem

Later the northers kingdom is lost and Judah takes over the personification of Israel

I hope this makes it clearer for you but it covers a lot f time and concepts

Never mind if you get into it you will meet Jeroboam who gave his name to rather large quantities of champagne!!

Genesis 30 deals with Jacob's offspring. There are still 12 tribes of Jacob. His name was changed to Israel by God. Judah was one of Jacobs sons. God said that the scepter shall not depart from Judah until He came to earth. (Genesis 49 verse 10). All Jews are Israelites, but not all Israelites are Jews. The tribal names are given in one of the other answers correctly. It is fascinating who those tribes are today. The blessing was separated from ruler-ship. The blessings were given to Josephs sons, Ephraim and Manasseh. England and the United States respectively.

He was Semitic; according to the Bible he was from the tribe of Judah.

Yes, there were 12 Tribes of Israel.

There are Sephardim (Jews descending from the Iberian Peninsula), Ashkenazim (Eastern European and German Jews), and the Mizrahim (Jews from the Middle East).

The Jews we see today dressed in black suits are Hasidic, and are likely Ashkenazic Jews.

Jesus was from the tribe of Judah. The black suited ones are, as far as I can tell, Hasidic.
