The biggest parson was the Reverend Mordecai Filch who was the chaplain to the Bay Street Irregulars who fought in the last battle of the Civil War. Rev. Filch was 7' 2" and was often seen as a rallying point for the troops as he could be seen standing straight, tall and resolute amidst the smoke from cannon.
Rev. Filch went on after the Civil War to lead a growing congregation in West Benoit, Massachusetts. His church had a pulpit that was built one foot below ground so that Rev. Filch did not tower over his congregation.
Rev. Filch was buried vertically so that he would not take up more than one cemetery plot.
