My mom really doesnt eat unhealthly and I say that because she doesnt eat like fast food. But, now that she cancer I think that she should eat organic foods. Do you think this may interfer with the chemo? I asked the dr if now that she has cancer should she eat a high diet in veggies and fruits and he said NO!. I know its too late to fix a problem but, I personally think that eating a high diet in veggies and antixodant might help her immune system and probably help a little. Do you know anyone who ate healthier when they had cancer and it helped? thanks!

*I just think that eating all these food including meat which are full or hormones and antibiotic might not really help the situation.

The doctor says NO, because fruits and vegetables can be very dangerous to cancer patients when our counts drop. If your mother is going to eat them, make sure they are washed and scrubbed in hot water and soap. Organic or not, anything grown in the ground can carry bacteria and viruses that can usually be fought off easily, but chemotherapy represses the immune system enough that sometimes it can cause serious health problems and even death. A patient that has had high doses of chemo, are forbidden to eat fresh fruits and veg...listen to her oncologists rather than making your own assumptions about what she should be eating.

Let your mom eat whatever she wants. Chemo can make us very sick and often what we eat during chemo, we never want to touch again. If you try to force her to eat lots of health food, once she's done with chemo, she may never touch the stuff again. Besides, our doctors just want us to EAT, they really don't care what as long as we're getting nutrition.

Have her eat a diabetic diet -- new research is showing that sugar (of all things) FEEDS cancer! Many cancer patients would have a major improvement in their conditions if they controlled the supply of cancer's preferred fuel: GLUCOSE. By slowing the cancer's growth, patients make it possible for their immune systems to catch up to the disease. Controlling one's blood-glucose levels through diet, exercise, supplements, meditation and prescription drugs - when necessary - can be one of the most crucial components to a cancer treatment program. The saying "Sugar feeds cancer" is simple. The explanation is a little more involved.

my husband is battling cancer for the 4th time in as many years and i swear that a healthy diet has REALLY helped......but keeping weight up is very important too, it is a good balance......whole wheat pasta, soya milk smoothies with fresh fruit in them, no red meat, chicken and fish, tofu, garlic, black tea (earl grey, english breakfast), many deep green veggies and red veggies, fruits, brown rice, high protien and healthy carbs, fibre with physillium (bran buds).....we also have a toddler and hoping for more children...he does not let the cancer dictate the way that he will live his life/our life....we follow doctors orders, keep a sense of humour, a positive out look, enjoy everyday and enjoy beign with our family and friends! i hope that this might be a of some help to you and your mom.....help her to keep fighting the good fight!! all the very best to your, mom, you, your family and friends while you experience this journey with your mom....it can be tough at times, but you always come out a bit stronger each day. take good care............... just to add, with the fruit and veg...check with the doctor and he/she will tell you when it is o kay to start to introduce these foods as there are times through treatment when they might not recommend them depending on your mom's treatment.......my husband has had to go off friut at different times as he has had 2 stem cell trasnsplants, extream high dose chemo, radiation....don't forget, if all that appeals to your mom at the time is to eat a bag of chips then go get them for her and let her have at it!! again, take care and all the best whishes

Chemo can cause rapid weight loss. There's nothing wrong with your mom eating organic fruits and veggies, but she also needs to eat foods that will help maintain her weight, not promote weight loss.
