Manet was an impressionist painter .He used a lot of black unlike Monet and the idea of the impressionists using small stokes of pure colour. He was very influenced by Velasquez paintings which he has visited in Spain . Velasquez painted what he saw unlike the classical painters of his time and so can be called the inventer of impressionism . His painting called Dejeuner sur L'herbe ( lunch on the grass or picnic !) was rather shocking at the time as it shows a real naked girl unlike classical nudes which are ideas of beauty ,love etc. having the picnic with real men . Manet's brother married Berthe Morrisot another impressionist painter.
Some of his painting do work with delicious paint and are rather like Velasquez which you will have guessed is one of my heros but some are rather laboured and heavy Anyway after all this I think you ought look him up on google

Edouard Manet was another French painter (1832-1883), who learnt to paint the traditional style, but was later influenced by impressionists such as Monet. He developped his own painting technique, and presented traditional subjects in a way that thoroughly broke with conventions.

One of his most famous paintings is "Le Dejeuner Sur L'Herbe", quite a scandalous painting of the time, of a breakfast picnic with a nude woman.
