I keep getting calls from this number and when I call back they just hang up before speaking to me.

0870 isn't premium rate, so don't worry. I just tried the number for you but was on hold with nothing to identify who it was. But if you ring Ofcom on 020 7981 3000, they'll be able to tell you which company it is.

I got a similar number call me a few months back and it turned out to be my mobile phone company doing a customer survey and seeing if they could sell me more things! By the way, be careful when phoning back mystery numbers on your phone as there have been scams where they phone you, hang up and when you call back it charges you something like £15 per minute for the call, even if you are on hold. Don't worry about it - I always think if it is that important they will leave a message or call back to speak to me another time and actually take the call.

I think you'd need to call your phone supplier and get them to find out. Tell them these are silent (nuisance) calls.
But if you're with BT you can do a 'choose to refuse' on that number: unfortunately it's a paid-for service (£3.35 a month) which does seem lousy ...

They're probably coming from the automated call machinery of a marketing department: if you sign up for the Telephone Preference Service, this should pull your number off cold-calling lists. It takes a couple of months to filter through, but is probably worth it... Here's the link to sign up... http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/

Don't bother calling them back.. Everytime you phone them they are getting money back. If it is important they will contact you. It will cost you more than the standard rate to phone that number.

It could be one of those computerised dialer things. Maybe give BT a buzz and ask them what's up.
