Need to find out original software because i have data on a cd saved with this program. i have no other way of getting this data again through relatives.

It could be Legacy which I use, or it could be Ancestry, or it could be something else.

You need to read the CD and find some of the file names of the data, then try to associate them with the programs.

Legacy, Ancestry and the others have a free 30 day trial period.

Download the trials, and compare the names with the names on the CD.

Finally try some of them. Legacy will read some of the other applications files. You can't hurt your data, because it's on the CD.

There are many programs for family trees, one of which is called Family Tree. I'd recommend you check out some software websites. Then compare the code appended to the file names to figure out which one. Your filenames would be, for instance, SmithFamily.bco. The "bco" part would indicate what format the file is in and would likely be specific to the software.
