What can you expect when you get to the airport when checking in? Is it a special part of the airport for business and first class passengers or what?

Hey - it should be fun. Depending on who you fly with the experience will be different.

You should at least expect a separate check-in desk. With BA you get a completely separate lounge, with Virgin you get a limo to the airport and check-in on the way (almost). Show your ticket to the first ground staff agent you see - they will know where you should go. If you have an e-ticket, just ask.

You'll also get to use the lounge. Sometimes it will be a shared lounge, sometimes there will be a separate business and first lounge. With Virgin's Upper Class lounge, you'll have a bar, restaurant, massage, video room and other great distractions. With others, you'll get a comfy chair and a buffet.

You will also get fast track through customs - not that it will guarantee a speedy exit though with all the extra security nowadays.

most airlines have a business and first class lounge which you will have access to. In the lounges you have comfy seats access to internet cafe etc. You board later and it is a much more relaxed and quiter atmosphere than the rest of the airport.
You will have a seperate check in desk.
Depending on what airline you are flying with you do get extras. Some airlines offer a limo transfer from your house to the airport for thier first class passengers so it might be orth checking that out!!

You check in the same way but there is a lounge reserved for Business and First Class only once you have gone through security. Some airlines also allow you to board first

I fly business on Continental all the time. There is usually a separate line for checking in at the airport for business passengers and elite members. After you check your bags, in some airports (especially in the US), there is a special line for the security checkin as well. Also, when boarding, the business class customers are seated first.

I've travelled business and economy and on long haul I would always use business in the future. You have a different check-in desk and lounge. They have drinks and snacks to help yourself in the lounge. you board the plane first and are looked after better by the crew. You have a bit more leg room and a choice of menu.
USA LA airport only had the lounge separated by a small partition and a shared loo with long queues though but all are comfortable.

The airlines all have special lines for first or bus. class passengers when checking in . And from there you can ussualy go to the first classs lounge where you get free drinks and snacks, and a comfortable ambiance. Makes the trip alot nicer.

It is on the plane where the difference is made. You may be entitled to use the airline lounges which are more comfortable and some have private bar, but the class of ticket is for seat on plane. It will be alot better than economy class.
