Did you upgrade Windows 98 to WinXP or did you do a clean install?? If the former is the case, then all your old programs including Encarta should work. However, if you did a clean install (format the drive & then install XP), then all data on your Hard-disk partition will be lost and there's no way to recover encarta without doing a re-install.

If I get this right, you installed windows xp over top of windows 98.

While encartia is still on the disk, it will have to be recognized/installed for w-xp to run it, as it won't be in the new registry.

This also applies if windows xp is running off the D drive, as the software for encartia is on C.

You can't just click on the file, as windows xp will not know what to do with it, and will give you the Open this with box.
