when you ask where the relationship stands or if i should give him space or make an effort? my boyfriend is out of work and i think he's stressed and busy right now-confused. but not giving me a straight answer is not fair for me or for the relationship - ive tried to talk to him twice but got no straight answer. but he seems normal when we're together and sometimes sends me messages - though he is definitely not emotionally connected (meaning, no iloveyous or any mushy stuff) - just the usual hi's and hello's? is he just waiting for me to break it up? or he really cant figure out an answer because of the unemployed situation? he's 23 and im 28... we are having some problems with the relationship which we're trying to fix but i cant fix it when i dont know if he wants space or not. when im making the efforts to visit/talk to him he seems happy/appreciative but still remains emotionally disconnected. HELP!

It could be stress or it could be maturity level. The level of maturity between 23 and 28, especially men, is vast. He may not understand why you are worried and does not see a reason to answer your question. Or he may want to break up but until he has a job and can support himself, he wants to keep you around (I hope this is not true). Another option is that he may just be upset about not having a job and being able to give you things. I hope things work out for you. Good Luck!!

sigh, this is how boys act when they want to break up. You are 28 you have lots of time dating and new relationships.
If you have friends who are girls what would you think if they acted this way?
Cut your losses and move on. If he is avoiding confronting ths issue and you have honestly said to him that you are concerned for him and your relationship and you are in a rut and this has gone on for some time now, then I'm sorry it is over. Please don't waste prescious time, with some one who is not "there".
You sound like you really care about him and love him, imagine the tables are turned and you wanted out, You would act the exact same way.
Good luck to you.

Some guys are gutless when it comes to splitting with a girl. They will just make life so uncomfortable that the girl dumps them and then they can be the victim.
My husband has finally dumped me but only after making my life such hell I didn't know which way was up. His comment to me "would you just have put up with it for ever".
I know so many guys who behave like this it's worrying.
Oh and yes, amazingly they are often the sort of guy your friends would be supprised at you going out with. Ugly inside and out...

Sometimes a guy doesn't always know the answer! Firstly, don't assume he does. Secondly, try not to force him to answer, if he doesn't want to you can't force him regardless of how much you want to know. (frustrating-I know!) I'd say the best thing to do is say how you feel and tell him you'll be there when/if he wants to answer.
Also, "absence makes a heart grow fonder"... Back off a bit, if he likes you he'll come running!
