Paul advised against doing anything that could be addictive in nature. I don't remember gambling ever being mentioned specifically.

Personally, this is where common sense can prevail. We are advised to be as beneficial to others as we can as long as we're here. Gambling is self-serving, and is therefore a waste of our time and resources, whether it's a sin or not.

And for what?
Even if there is a single verse that condemn gambling and lottery, what would you expect from them?

Just like when the Bible told u, stone the culprit to death who committed rape, adultery and fornication. Did they (the Christians) do all that?
What did they (the Christians) tell u about all of these rules?
Simply, they will quote what did Jesus Christ said, "Go away, and sin no more". Enough.

What does it mean?
It means commit sins as much as u want, and then repent. Sorry, but that is typically what it mean. Most of them are hypocrites.

A fool and his money are soon parted.

that is biblical.
gaming is not necessarily evil by itself. the consequences of indulging are! losing a family and house over gambling addictions are very real, and people do die from them.
playing cards without gambling is equal to drinking and getting drunk it is a witness of experience that wastes time in dark rooms and the gathering of wicked people.
However, the same thing can be said of playing nintendo or gaming online. or dungeon and dragons. LOL all the evils of history. at least in my life time
by the way, the gaming industry is an honest occupation. those who choose to gamble do so NOT so honestly.

I don't think there is a hard-and-fast rule, but I don't think that Christians *should* gamble, because it indicates that do not have trust in God to provide for you.
So you buy a lottery ticket occasionally? No big deal, but when gambling becomes an addiction, when it becomes an idol that you place above God, that is sin.

To suggest that Christians are "allowed" to do anything is ridiculous. Christians are allowed to act of their own free will.

The bible clearly states that the charging of interest on loans is against God's law - does this mean that all employees of banks and clients who abide by their rules are sinners?

God's Word, the Bible, does not discuss gambling in detail, but it does provide us with principles that help us in evaluating gambling. These principles make it clear that Christians should be consious of motive regarding gambling and the effects that gambling often produces.

One such principle is that of love for one another.

Throughout the Bible, to be pleasing to God, we are taught to love one another.

When one plays the lottery or gambles, if they win, they are winning off the losses of other people. Money that often times could be better used for the gambler's family or other important things is lost over and over again. This often causes trouble in families and can lead to break up of families and of course financial ruin to the gambler.

This is not the course of love. At John 13:35, Jesus said: "By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love among yourselves." So love would be an identifying mark of true Christians. In the verse before, verse 34 of John chapter 13, Jesus said: "I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another; just as I have loved you." Of course, the command (in itself) to love one another was not new in the Bible, but Jesus made it new in the way those who worship God should love one another. It was a way of self-sacrificing love, just like Jesus showed.

With that thought in mind, would it be loving to engage in financial gain over the losses of others? Would that be an unselfish love? Surely, the love of winning money in lotteries or other such gambling, is a selfish thing. Not only that, but gambling promotes and feeds greed, a very undesirable trait, not acceptable to God. At 1 Corinthians 6:9,10 the early Christians were warned that unrighteous persons would not inherit God's kingdom. It also went on to say: "Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, ........nor thieves, nor greedy persons..... nor extortioners will inherit God's kingdom."

Those who love God will want to avoid all forms of gambling because they know that they are responsible to God for the way they live their life. They chose not to squander their time and money on gambling pursuits which can induce greediness in them and that can harm others. Instead they use their time and funds in ways that will honor God. Proverbs 3:9,10 says: "Honor Jehovah with your valuable things and with the firstfruits of all your produce. Then your stores of supply will be filled with plenty; and with new wine your own press vats will overflow."

Using our money for greedy pursuits does not honor the Creator, but using it in good ways for our livelihood and that of our families and to help others is something that God will reward. Proverbs 19:17 says: "He that is showing favor to the lowly one is lending to Jehovah, and his treatment He will repay to him."

You should read the bible for yourself instead of relying on other peoples interpretations of it.
