My cats do that every now and then. I call it their Formula 1 racing time.

The vet tells me they do it when they are constipated. But why would they both suffer at the same time?

I think they are just having a silly half hour!

Without seeing him its hard to see, if he is simplying running around then things should be fine. Cats do pant when hey are over heated/ de hydrating and when the are stressed, if he is panting because he is stressed then something is very wrong, could be a fit, seizure or something else is effecting him such as poisoning. Id ring the vet immediately, find out whats wrong before its to late, if it turns out to be nothing, it doesn't matter, its best to be sfe than sorry.
He'll be fine though so don't worry to much

Apart from running around and panting, is there anything else obviously wrong? Does he look freaked out or is he enjoying himself?

I wouldn't over react if I were you. I have an 11 month old kitten who goes absolutely nuts chasing a laser pen to the extent that she pants like a dog. We try not to let her over do it but she adores the game and clearly gets excited whenever we get the toy out. Unless your cat is in clear distress, I would think he's probably having a mad 5 minutes and getting rid of some excess energy!

You do need to take it too the vet quickly, my friends kitten started doing that.. it went completley mad, panting really fast and the next day it dropped dead - it had some sort of fit and needed medical attention, if you cant afford to take it - still ring the vet they will help u and help u with payment somehow!!! Do it now.

i have a cat that does exactly that when he has had a fight with another cat. just make the house as calm as possible. try talking to him calmly, stroking him if thats possible. it may not be so it maybe better to leave him sort himself out. if hes not calmed down in 15-20 mins or so go to the vets with him as it may not be as a result of him fighting.

He could be constipated and have a stomach ache. Or he could have a bladder infection. I would phone the vet.
