english is not my native language. i had been struggling when i was in university learning and studying in english. despite my poor command of english, i managed to pass my exams eventually and graduated from U.

my dream is to become a teacher. i have recently become a temp teacher and guess what? i have to teach in english. i had applied to become a mother tongue language teacher but wasnt successful.

i have tried my very best each time before i am going to teach in each class. i make lots of preparation, i even write scripts so i could at least read them out in case my mind is suddenly a blank then. knowing that i am not competent enough in english, and afraid of being pointed out that i am even more inferior than the kids, i am always in a great stress. sometimes i really feel that the kids know that i am not good enough for them. i dont know what i can do. i have been sick several times. am still recovering from illness. should i just quit.. i feel tired and worthless.

Weather your teaching English or math your diction is very important as a teacher unless you are at a school that is predominately your language.

Just take your time on the english work slow on learing it.....It is hard I know but you can do it, If you have passed your exams you can make it. Just relax and take your time learning english

Don't give up now. But I do believe in order to get the resecpt of the kids you teach (which they hardly have now) it is important for them to understand you.
An accent is lovely but they must understand so they dont fall back using
the "I couldn't understand what she was saing"

Good luck.....Dont' give up

Hey,

Not knowing English well, is not the end of the world. You are just stressing yourself too much over such a simple issue. Its just a small problem which can be completely done away with most effectievely, if dealt in the right way.

I wont advise you carry on with your job unless you are equiped enough. What you need to do now, is to get some expert help. There will be plenty of courses around you to help you with your conversational English. After a couple of days training you would feel more confident , Im sure about that. Just give it a last try and if u still find it hard to master English then its best you try another job.

Its not right to run away from problems in life. You'll have to face it , find out answers and deal with it.

You'll have to master English anyway, because at some point in your life it would be helpful to you. So try ur best and come out successful.

All the best!

Never say you are worthless. Try to convince yourself that you are compotent and valuable as a teacher. It is an admirable goal and after a few days and getting to know the kids you should settle in. Kids are like dogs, they can sense your fear so try to be as confident as you can. Hold your body in an assertive posture and if you must read from your script, just give it a quick glance instead of hiding behind it. Kids need to be challenged in all things to keep their minds on task so don't fear you are being too tough. Please don't quit, there are people who will value you in the future as the teacher who changed their life. Pick yourself up and go for it! Good luck =)

If you are happy being a teacher and if you have no other choice but being a teacher then go for it. I'm an English teacher and not a native speaker, I can understand the pressure you must feel, the most important thing is to do whatever you feel right.

Just keep teaching maybe your English will improve with time. Tell the kids you need there help learning English better, kids like trade offs.

Most teachers teach their students not to give up, I really hooe that you are one of them, and know that nothing last forever, have you talked to the principal yet. They should really understand and find a better position for you

don't quit, you seem to be well organised, just try for a bit longer until you can find something more permanent teaching in the language of your choice... ... ... I hope you succeed ... ... ....
