our niece & nephew are now 19 & 20 yrs. old , I think they are too old to get Christmas gifts anymore, but we still give them cash anyway. At what age do you stop giving
gifts or do you always give no matter how old the person
is ?
THANKS

I think it's more about the relationship you have with the relative than their age. And also whether you WANT to or ARE ABLE to send a gift. I send gifts to my children's cousins (my ex-husband's nephews) on Christmas and birthdays because they spend time with my children and there is a bond there. I do not send send gifts to my cousins or their children because we do not maintain a relationship. As far as a gift versus cash, I prefer to send a gift, even if it's something small. And at those times when funds are a bit low, I send a card with a note in lieu of a gift.

My uncle stopped giving me gifts when I turned 18 - I was considered an adult and gifts are more for children in case of extended family. The only gift I received after that was on my wedding day. We will stop giving gifts to our own nephew/nieces when they turn 18.
The thing to keep in mind though, is that my uncle lives in another state and we never spent Christmas together. My nephews and nieces are also spread out and we don't spend Christmas together, nor are likely to. My sister sometimes spends Christmas with them and she still gets something small - book or tea or coffee - WHEN she is there for Christmas. I think it depends on whether you spend Christmas together or not. If you do, keep giving, but move from cash to something small. Why not ask them what their favorite book or CD is?
I don't think you are being cheap... if they don't appreciate your gift, they are not worthy of it.

Depends on the relationship & the circumstances. Nieces & nephews in college who are working & struggling we give them gift cards. Cousins who aren't children anymore we stopped giving to them at about 13yo.
Family that we only see once a year at Christmas we stopped giving to, except for children under 12yo, we still buy for them.

Give of YOURSELF. That is the best gift of all.
I do not feel obligated to fuel the seemingly unstoppable train of American consumerism. I offer my time and advice for FREE, instead. As a matter of principle, I neither buy gifts nor do I expect them in return. I think offering my advice FOR FREE is a gift, because, if memory serves me correctly, Peppermint Patty charged for hers!
People have too many money woes to add "gift obligations" to their budgetary outlays.

Well, there's no definite answer to your question. This is up to you, depends only on what you want to do.
