Hi all!
I have someone who wants to give me a 9 week old male maltese x chi. If anyone owns one or knows anything about the breed they wanna share with me it would be greatly appreciated! also, if anyone has any photos that would be fantastic too! i have been searching for some but cant seem to find many!
Pls, no comments about how these hybrid breeds are mutts. i am well aware of this. i have a maltese x poodle who came to me through the shelter and she is fantastic! also, pls no comments about health issues with these dogs. i do know this. i know there r many shelter dogs out there in need of homes - i work in a shelter. if i dont addopt this pup he will end up in a shelter too.
one more thing. i am not a breeder nor to i have any intention on ever becoming one. my female maltese x poodle is spayed and my maltese x chi will be too when he is old enough. i dont agree with backyard breeding.
Any info anyone has and photos of maltese x chi's would b greatly appreciated! =)

HUNTINDAWG: u r really rude. its SO unneseccary to behave like that when i am asking a simple question. sure, i could spend $1000 on buying a purebred pup, but to be quite honest, i would prefer a mutt/mongrel who i am saving from the shelter and a possible death. i just cant believe people like u who r just so unnesecarily rude to people.

I have heard its almost impossible to tell what traits a mixed dog will inheret....I have a jackahuahua...lol.I would imagine the best thing to do is weigh the highs and lows of both breeds. And piss on huntindawg.....Im sure his pure breeds are starved for days before an outing, and cooped up in a cage for most of their time, that is unless hes a back yard breeder, then of course they get get to mate in between beatings.people like that are why so many good dogs are mistreated and then tossed. and truth be told on average mutts have less health issues than pure breeds.the strongest traits tend to win out over the defective, unless of course the ANIMAL is half Jerk and half idiot.

It is true that it's impossible to predict the traits of a mix. It could come out completely like either parent and hardly at all like the other, or somewhere in between. This isn't to say that mutts aren't great dogs, just that if you're looking for predictability then a mix isn't right for you.

I suggest considering each of it's parent's breeds. If a maltese would make you happy, and if a chi would make you happy, and if you'd be happy if this dog has all of the negative traits combined from both breeds (because that's possible), then this dog would be a great fit for you.

I'm also a firm believer that training makes SO much of a difference. How you treat and train the dog will ultimately matter more in it's temprament than the breeds of it's parents.

Hi just to let you know I have 2 Mini Pin's/Chihuahua the are brothers from the same litter. What I found I read up on both breeds and I am glad I did as both of my dogs have a little of both personalities in them. Chihuahuas can live very long compared to any other breed, if they are healthy. Just so every one knows the 2 dogs I have are both males from the same litter and they are both nutered. I have had them since they were 3 months, now 7 yrs & they came from Canadian Chi Rescue. Please read up on both breeds it is the best thing you can do for yoursef and the dog.

I live in Malta where Maltese Terriers originate from, they are really cute dogs, similar to Poodles but smaller. They are both small breeds so it won't grow much. Many dogs have health issues, in fact most breeds have something, so I wouldn't worry, it's mostly down to luck.
