If the other PC matches yours then yes, but the other PC will probably end up looking like yours. And Microsoft licensing will be very confused.

The recovery disk contains registry information and license information for *your* PC. Not for *their* PC.

You can use an XP CD to do a recovery operation if it's a bit damaged. But *not* your recovery disk.

If you mean a recovery disc like for a laptop, then no. If you have a full installation cd to install XP from, and you are simply referring to it as a recovery CD for no other reason than not knowing what to call it, then yes you can.

no. Tried it before and it doesn't work. It worked at first and then kept crashing. in the end i buggered my hard drive, and don't have enough technical knowlegde to fit a new one (the prices the shops charge to replace it, I'd be as well to buy a new pc).

You can't use it to "recover" another pc but you can use it to replace individual system files however this will nearly always fail.

Check out Windows LSD. You can download it on Bit Torrent.

No, I've tried this.

Not only is it machine specific, but it is also partition specific on a particular machine. I was trying to create a backup of partition one, and install it on partition two.

It doesn't work.
