It takes up to two weeks for this medication to take affect. It takes this long because your blood system needs to have this constantly going around your body at an even rate to take affect. You will know when it is working as you will feel more rlaxed, in general that is. You may also feel like you are viewing the World through vaseline covered cellophane..sounds weird but it is true.
Give it time.

Definatly get back to your doctor and tell him/her your symptoms as you have been taking it for 4 months and if it is making you feel worse it definitaly is not the right medication for you and he can change you to something that will make the world a better place. He/she may think also it would benefit you to seek help from a councilor trained in this field. You may have to try a few different tablets before the right one is found for you. My husband was taking Placil for ages and when he told his doctor about how bad he was feeling he would just increase the dosage until he was like a zombie so we changed doctors and he listened and changed him to a new one on the market called Efexor-xr and the change in his condition was dramatic to the stage where he felt comfortable driving and even being able to go out. His new doctor also refered him to a clinical phycologist which he was a bit hesitant to go to at first but he has seen her a couple of times and is quite happy to go to see her now. The changeover to the new medication took a while as he had to slowly go off the old one before he could start the new one and it was very hard for him but he has done it and now he can even remember things and has a much better outlook on life so give it a try but I would suggest you not discontinue what you are taking and just try to get on with your life as that would not be good for you as you do need some help and just because you have to take Zoloft it does not mean you are going nuts or anything like that because most people will not know what you are suffering and it also helps if you have good support to help you through this trying time of your life so like I said if your current doctor does not listen to you go and see someone else until you find a caring doctor. Good luck and take care.

If this particular med is not feeling just right you should discuss it with your doctor and what other meds you might try. Keep in mind, certain anti-depressants may not work well to treat anxiety. Also sometimes if unresolved problems at work or home are still upsetting your life, then medicine alone may not be enough and you might need to see a counselor or therapist, millions of peole do regularly and it is ok, better by far than suffering alone or needlessly. It is not recommended, to just stop your med but see your doc and be persistent til they HEAR what you are saying. They are busy and get stressed too. Sometimes it is necessary to seperate ourselves from the stresses we have at the moment at least until we can make sound decisions again .Anxiety attacks and panic attacks are similar and different from depression though all can be caused by chemical imbalances in the brain. It may be a chronic or long term disorder or it may stem from stress over taxing your stores of chemicals in the brain that help you cope. Either way, you need professional help. These disorders often occur frequently in families and especially if the abuse of drugs or alcohol exist. Education about family dynamics and substance abuse are very helpful. Almost everyone knows someone whose life has been affected by this. Thank God we now know that these are diseases and not the failures of people who suffer from them.Take care of yourself luck Ronniea

you should let your prescribing Dr know immediately how you feel and let them know that it is not working for you and to ween you off of it and find another anti-depressant. You must keep in constant contact with you Dr, this is very important and saves you a lot of grief. I myself took Zoloft and became extrememly Agoraphobic. I had to ween myself off of it. Zoloft is a very powerful med and is definitely not for all. The next new med, you should know within about 2 weeks if it is for you, don't wait months.

The first answer is correct, I was taking them also but couldn't concentrate on my studies (kept forgetting what I'd already done)
So stopped them and the pain killers I was on (hate medication anyway) and just try to cope with it other ways.
Be careful 'cos no matter what they tell you it is dependency forming (looked it up on the web).

If you are comfortable with this suggestion, ask your doctor to refer you to a councillor this may help with the anxiety you are still feeling.

Tell your doctor ASAP. Maybe you need a higher dose or maybe you need another medication that either replaces Zoloft or it might be taken in combination.

There has been a lot of negative stuff in the media in Australia about Zoloft.

Type it in to Google, ask the chemist (pharmacist) about it.

It made my hubby very angry.

Get some help quick.

Perhaps this is not the correct medication for you. Call your doctor and discuss this - ask to have your meds switched there are plenty of other kinds out there to take.
