Hypertention (high blood pressure) can be caused for many reasons, including genetic predisposition. Did he have a cold or flu recently? Nasal Decongestants with pseudaphedrin (i.e. Sudafed) can elevate BP drastically. So, can illegal drugs like meth. Or it could be chronic and aggravated by things like sodium, being overweight. The best thing is to let the doctors do their tests. But if he's chronic, they'll probably put him on meds like beta-blockers or ACE inhibitors.

High Blood pressure or Hypertension is usually caused by embolus, an accumulated fat that has lodged in the arterial wall which could cause the arteries to break especially in the areas in the brain where the arteries get narrower. This could lead the arteries to erupt causing stroke and if there is too much damage in the arteries in the brain, this could lead to death. Your father must be having too much salt and fatty meat intake, less exercise, or could also be diabetic. The development of hypertension is gradual. Most people know they're hypertensive when they start experiencing pain in the nape, dizziness and breathing difficulty. Most hypertensive people snore in their sleep and are often asleep or sleepy during the day. If you have observed these signs before then your father has been hypertensive for some time now. My father died of hypertension 10 years ago, he didn't have the chance to undergo brain scan as that stroke was really fatal. These signs that I am giving you here were the same signs I saw in my father. I hope it is not too late and that your father will get better. I am praying for your daddy. I don't know you but I am really worried about your father too. Let's just pray for his recovery.

CT scan of the brain will help determine if there are any irregularities in the vessels of the brain. Further to this, if they do see something abnormal they can then go on to do an MRI, this takes 40mins or so and is more extensive how it shows the irregularity up.
Neurosurgeons will then come into it and if it is indeed due to a blood vessel being impaired, they can simply correct it in theatre.
All surgery comes with warnings of complications, but shunts and things like that are put in to relieve the brain of pressure that cause fitting.

that's right hypertension or high blood pressure is not a disease itself but only a symptom of a disease. several tests may need to be ran in order to find out what is causing the high BP. since his chest scan came back negative then next in line would be definitely be a brain scan. you high BP is caused when there is something occluding the blood vessels, it could be anything from a blood clot, a tumor, entangled blood vessels, or even plaques of cholesterol. and they could be present anywhere in the body. however since usually it's in the chest, that's why the chest is checked out first then the brain, if still negative, then the rest of the body will probably be also checked. if it is a clot, tumor or entangled blood vessels, it may be removed surgically and your dad will be fine. if it is plaques of cholesterol, then doctor may try advising your dad to tone down on the fatty diet and prescribe him antilipidemics which helps break down lipids a by product of fat. another cause of high BP is aneurysm, it is the weakening of the wall of a blood vessel.. this can be detected by an MRI. as i can see your dad is on the right track, im sure his doc won't stop until he/she finds what is causing your dad's high BP, then he/she can start treatment from there. God bless.

High Blood pressure has to be controlled by diet, exercise and drugs including the change of lifestyle. Hypertension is caused by atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), kidney diseases and certain drugs. Persistent hypertension is one of the risk factors for strokes, heart attacks, heart failure and arterial aneurysm, and is a leading cause of chronic renal failure.
Eat a low-cholesterol, low-fat diet. This kind of diet includes cottage cheese, fat-free milk, fish (not canned in oil), vegetables, poultry, egg whites, and polyunsaturated oils and margarines (corn, safflower, canola, and soybean oils). Avoid foods with excess fat in them such as meat (especially liver and fatty meat), egg yolks, whole milk, cream, butter, shortening, lard, pastries, cakes, cookies, gravy, peanut butter, chocolate, olives, potato chips, coconut, cheese (other than cottage cheese), coconut oil, palm oil, and fried foods.
Low sodium intake.(Sodium chloride, Monosodium glutamate, Sodium bicarbonate)
*Regular exercise.
*Stop tobacco smoking.
*Stop consuming alcohol.
*Reduce fat and oils in the diet.
*Obesity - In obese subjects, losing a kilogram of mass generally reduces blood pressure by 2 mmHg. (Abdominal circumference should be less than 100 cms)
*Control Diabetes Mellitus.
*Avoid worry and stress.
*Avoid occupational, aircraft and roadway noise exposure.
Please see the web pages for more details on Hypertension, Essential hypertension, Malignant hypertension (arteriolar nephrosclerosis), Drug-induced hypertension, Renovascular hypertension, Hypertensive heart disease and Hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage.
