I've got the flu (yes it is the flu) and threw up the little food I was able to eat. Why do we do this? There doesn't seem to be a reasonable explanation.

when we are ill, our body goes through stress and when the body is stressed, our stomach releases more hydrochloric acid (gastric juice) because this is suppose to make us feel more hungry in order for us to take in more food to help us fight sickness however it is ironic that when we are sick we also lose appetite and just want to rest so when there is increased hydrochloric acid and there isn't enough food, our stomach lining is irritated and sends signal to the brain for us to vomit it out because it is detected by the body as harmful.

The body is trying to get rid of anything that irritates the stomach or if the stomach/intestines are infected...the flu of course is a virus that irritates the stomach. Your stomach doesn't control if you vomit or not..theres a location in your brain called the vomiting control that obviously controls when you vomit.
