I just need some ideas for a debate i will have in class, i just happened to pick "anti-all-girls schools". Besides, i'm really interested in this topic and i want to know what are the pros and cons of an all-girls school. I know i may be biased on this since i go to an all-girls school. so..help anyone?? :)

I work for a women's college, so I have the privilege of watching young women blossom educationally, socially and emotionally within a single sex environment.

We know that a significant percentage of women leaders today (from Hillary Clinton on down) graduated from women's colleges. They were cultivated as leaders, given leadership opportunities early on, were mentored by strong women, and received a strong education. Single sex study allows women to have discussions that do not occur within the context of co-ed institutions. I'm not talking about sex talk - I'm talking about women talk, in which we acknowledge the challenges and opportunities of being a woman in a progressive society.

As for the opposite side (having been a debater, I understand the need to play devil's advocate), I can imagine some young women may see everything as about gender, and merely see the relationship between the sexes as competition. Maybe women who graduate from all-girl's schools don't have enough experience in communication with men, in leading men, and in working on co-ed working teams. They may begin to see men as irrelevant; that women can do it all in society and we don't need men.

I honestly have a hard time with the cons as well. My sisters and I attended the women's college with which I now work and I'm proud to be a graduate of a girl's school.

hope this helps - good luck!
