Okay this may sound a tad odd but you asked and I decided to answer with my preference, that said...
Of the two I prefer toads because they seem cuter and friendlier. They are very helpful in the entire garden for catching bugs too.
I say friendlier because we have a small pond that frogs came to live in... let me tell you frogs do NOT like to be imitated...at least the few that lived in our pond. Toads 'play along' when imitated. (what can I say... I get amused easily)
Despite toads bumpier texture I like their eyes better... to me they seem smarter.
I've watched the frogs... they sit nearly all day in one spot just waiting. Felt bad enough for them to 'chase' grasshoppers their way to see how they handle them... yup, the frogs shove the grasshopper in their mouth using their 'hands' if the insect doesn't go in all the way... kinda grossed me out.
The few toads I've seen move about under the greenery finding their meals... in my mind they are more peaceful.
By the way... I'm too chicken to handle either one of them, but I like to see them in their environment.
