Yes Jesus did everything it says he did! And i know of people today that have done 40 days, and he was God, but he was hungry.

As others have already posted, it is possible to survive not eating for 40 days and 40 nights, but of course, do not try it, because it is not a good idea. Everyone is different, and one person could die because of not eating for even less than 40 days, but some can survive fasting that long. Again, please do not try it, anyone. You could get very sick and die!

With respects to Jesus, he had a perfect human body which of course was a physical body so he needed food to survive. When he fasted for 40 days and nights, as recorded at Matthew 4:2-4, he must have been very very hungry, which gave the Devil an opportunity to tempt him. If Jesus had not been that hungry, then when Satan tempted him to turn a stone into bread, it wouldn't have been a difficult test, he would have easily rejected Satan's temptation. But now, think about not eating for over a month!!! How hungry he must have been!!! And as "son of God" (vs.3) he did have the power to turn stones into bread because power was given to him by his Father, Almighty God.

Jesus endured this test from Satan because of his love for God. He was tested in many other ways. He was fully put to the test and endured even until death. Hebrews 5:15 says about Jesus: "For we have as high priest, not one who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tested in all respects like ourselves, but without sin."

So yes, Jesus really did fast for 40 days and nights as the Bible says and then he was tempted by Satan. And it would have been a very strong temptation but he knew that pleasing God was more important than giving in to his fleshly need. That is why he said to Satan in verse 4: "....It is written, Man must live, not on bread alone, but on every utterance coming forth through Jehovah's mouth."

Interestingly, Moses, also fasted for 40 days while in the mountain of Sinai. (Exodus 34:28)

People have actually gone longer than 40 days. David Blaine went 44 days and that is not even a record. One man, I believe his name was Bobby Sands, he went on a hunger strike and died 71 days later. This is one thing in the bible which actually can't be called physically impossible.

( I should point out that I do believe in the bible because I believe that God can do the impossible.)

I'm an atheist, but this is a point where the Bible is not saying something impossible or even improbable. 40 days is survivable, although I imagine he was a much thinner prophet afterwards.

Scripture doesn't explain how he survived but as the son of God we can assume he could do what he damned pleased. The idiot that said David Blane went 40 days without food or water is full of crap.

I have known several people who fasted for 40 days (including my uncle). That is not a particularly difficult feat for a healthy person. It takes much longer than that to starve to death.

If you have faith, you do not need back up.
If you question than you are lacking faith.
Questioning leads to heresy and we know where heresy leads to.

You are welcome.

P.S. remember that according to scriptures, fasting is not eating from sunrise to sundown. Properly organized it can last as long as you want.
